Riccardo Calafiori (33)

So in the 2012/13 season then lol. How long was his career again?

Edit: transfermarkt says he did a hundred odd games on the left, so fair play @GC-Maniac :slightly_smiling_face:

Retired at 40. And recently he was pitching to come out of retirement, and funny thing is, I believe he was serious.

Then Capello came in sorted all that out. The legend that he is.

Their position data isn’t the most reliable tbf, for something that can be so easily tracked they’re beyond poor on that aspect. Gave up using it.

They probably do their best but they can be misleading for sure.

Especially for those attacking positions. Lots of mixing up between LW/AM/SS/RW.

Out of interest, what made you realise it couldn’t be trusted?

And can anyone suggest an alternative, cos I depend on that site quite heavily lol (not necessarily for position data, more commonly for goals, assists etc, so maybe I’ll still use it for that)

But in that case I rescind my concession to @GC-Maniac :face_with_tongue:

I used to use it all the time and blindly trust it till I actually dug in a few times and saw they have someone at ST who really played LW in a specific game (auba as an example) or marking a player as a DM when they played higher up.

Don’t know if they’ve gotten better recently but, even so, some old shit data will still be affecting older current players.

They’re reliable for pretty much everything else (transfer fees are a bit of a gamble because you don’t know what’s real). Wouldn’t mind an alternative for position data myself.

Do we trust Wikipedia?

1997–1999: Roma’s number 10 and captain

Totti’s years under Zdeněk Zeman represented a period of both physical and mental maturation as a player. From a technical and tactical standpoint, he proved to be compatible on the left wing in the rigid formations of the Bohemian coach, as his new role gave him more space to take on defenders in one on one situations, and cut into the centre to shoot on goal with his stronger foot; he also became physically more powerful, fit, hard-working, and complete.

2012–2013: Breaking records

Zeman tried to play Totti in a free role as a left forward or winger in his preferred 4–3–3 tactical line-up. Although this was a similar role to that which he had played during Zeman’s previous spell 13 years before, Totti’s freedom also enabled him to drop deep into the midfield to press opponents and pick up the ball, as well as attacking on the left wing.

In hindsight, it’s a bit hilarious that Zeman came back to Roma well over a decade later and decided to use a then 36 year old Totti as a left winger again.

I really started the rabbit hole here.

‘Where was Totti actually playing’ Quite the question of our time. :joy:

Reminds me of when I riled OA up for saying Messi is the best striker in history because he played as a false 9.

I saw Scholes do that same challenge recently and he did the exact same thing shoehorning Messi in as a striker, I immediately regretted thinking like him.

Very nice cameo, especially the first 10-15 minutes when he was getting forward

Looked strong

gotta give him his flowers today, he did well.

Looked like the player we hoped we signed today!

Agree, thought he looked very intelligent, reassuring and composed at LCB today. Hope to see more of that.

He’s a centre back so seeing him play there is where we’re really going to see his talent shine.

Are you happy to give him another season? Or would you cash in still?

Instant impact off the bench. He’s so good going forward.
I was worried he’d struggle defensively but he did very well, even better than Saliba.

Such a versatile player to have around. Simply needs to stay.

We really have enough quality and quantity to play 3 CB formation, and push one up as CM.

Gabriel, Saliba, Calafiori, Timber, Kiwior, even White.

Maybe our next change is 3-4-3 or 3-5-2?

That’s literally what we do in possession Ronnie.
One of the fullbacks tucks in and joins the midfield, the three defenders left behind form a 3atb, one of the RCB and LCB is allowed to overlap like White and Timber do.
Calafiori was doing the same today.
