Riccardo Calafiori (33)

Still think it’s media driven bullshit, we really don’t need another left footed CB who can play left back.
We’ve more pressing matters in midfield and attack, we’re just being used to drive up the price by someone who wants him.

I mean this is just about always the case with Italian players, it’s the most predictable thing each window. But often Fab Ro is wise to that and more restrained than he is here… but who knows.

I remain skeptical of it happening but we’ve been reported to be interested in signing a LB or LB/LCB for months, with players like Hato, Kadioglu, and Pacho all linked. It wouldn’t be that surprising for us to sign that kind of player this summer.

This is unlikely our top priority compared to midfield and attack but this might be the deal that is most doable first because our targets in the other positions are still playing in the Euros or Copa America.

Still a lot of noise regarding Calfiori. Even McKenna uploaded some content.

Left side has been a problem for us, despite the number of squad players that can be deployed there.

If this guy become part of our team, I think it opens the door for Timber playing in the 6 role, unless we unload both Kiwior and Zinchenko.

I mean I’m not opposed to it but can he actually do a job there?

I didn’t get to see much of him prior to his move to Arsenal, but it was my understanding that he is capable at operating in that area of the pitch. Perhaps one of the OA Dutch contributors can add?
He’s looked pretty sharp when he came on against Everton, and whilst entering the game as a defensive substitute, I seem to recall him being tucked in and advanced in that area.

I guess we’ll see. But if we only signed two players this window (aside from Raya). I’d like it to be Calafiori - for the reasons already cited (relating to squad versatility). And Nico Williams. Both seem of the ability to be selected in the starting eleven, and both bought for a reasonable fee.

You absolute bullshitter, as if you knew anything about him before these tweets started flying around about him :joy:

Why haven’t you ever mentioned him before now, were you following his career at Basel as well?

Mention as a wishlist? If so, the answer is Camavinga. That was who I wanted for LB(plus with jis versatility he could play all over the pitch anyway).

Not the question I asked

I’ve talked about Calafiori before the links and before I said we should go for him.

Good of you to search for any mention of his name and link the random tweet with his name in, which you then didn’t comment on or follow up in any way apart from to use his name is a throwaway sentence.

Proves my point nicely :grinning:

But yeah, sure, you’ve been “following him” for years because he was mentioned one of the million tweets you spam this forum with every summer.

I haven’t been following him for years, where did I say that?

He was a promising Roma player that had bad luck with injuries. He eventually left and went to Basel.
I saw him for Bologna this season and he was impressive. I don’t watch Bologna religiously, I’ve only tuned in for some big games and also when they played Roma.
He specifically played LB when they slapped Roma at home which kickstarted Roma’s bad form that cost them CL football.

Not so impressive that you said a word about it though. All over him now though.

Anything else, now you’ve had a chance to do some frantic googling? :grinning:

His performances at the Euros were what convinced me buddy.
Since you’re so good at tracking things you should know this by now.
