Reiss Nelson

Agreed. Even tho Miki was massively frustrating that first match, he still has a superior work rate and can offer just as much going forward. I prefer Miki and Pepe on the wings against lolpool.

I’d prefer Pepe, but he’ll need a bedding in period… I see very little value in continuing to give minutes to Micki honestly - he isn’t our future and has largely been awful for us most of the time… I’m also not convinced his work rate is greater than Nelson, but Nelson clearly needs some time to adjust to the EPL.

Personally I’d rather see Pepe/Nelson rotation and use Micki for emergencies or rotation/cups as needed… we will need his minutes at some point regardless.

For better or for worse, all our creation is from out wide.

So it depends on who you’d trust to create in that game.

Mkhi’s work rate is good defensively, and he’d help AMN. And if he has a good day he’d be very good.

But if he has a bad day, it’ll be painful AF again.

Nelson at a base level will probably be better in attack. But if he is improving enough to deal with TAA?

Ideally I’d start both.

And Auba in the middle.

But our esteemed manager loves to put our best CF on the wing, where he’s pretty mediocre, in a position that is paramount to his philosophy, so…

Both of them are pretty invisible in attacking phases–a combined effect of our shit Valverdemery ball and their defects–but I much prefer a chance to fall to Nelson than Mkhitaryan. Nelson is also less likely to lose possession deep than Mkhi due to his superior technique and press resistance. So yeh, while neither of them are going to really offer too much (again, as much a symptom of the ā€œā€ā€œfootballā€"" we play as their problems), I prefer Nelson to Mkhi, aside from the fact of what ljung mentions.

For me looks like Nelson will probably be better used in EL and cup games with the odd PL game thrown in for this season, if he can put in top performances then he can make the step up next season. The lad has talent but he’s not quite there yet to been the player we want him to be.

Maybe, the interesting part is how he’ll react after our fans stop treating him like a kid coming out of the academies and treat him like everybody else. Seems like it has already started happening.

He shouldn’t think it he should know it! :torreira:

Nelson getting in on the action. Not a great goal, but hopefully good for the confidence

That was awful by keeper, but we’ll take it.

He was expecting it to go around his defender and not nutmeg him. Pretty silky from Nelson

Or it was kind of scuffed… but I’ll go with your version :grimacing:

I thought he played for it but I can’t view it again right now

He definitely caught the keeper off guard took the shot quickly from under his foot. Should’ve saved it but Nelson deserves some credit too it was an interesting technique.

He definitely struggled to settle in the game. He was easily pushed aside when on the ball.

Should have scored as well.

I swear all of our players get pushed off the ball lol looked more inventive in his cameo than Pepe did all game though

I don’t think Nelson will be good enough for a top 6 team, I’ve only seen limited amounts of him but it doesn’t seem like his game has grown much in the last 24 months.

Well it’s also likely that Emery won’t be a capable development manager either with young players.

Nelson did not look ready for Premier League football. Seeing him constantly getting shrugged off the ball hammers that point home for me. At the moment I think Saka’s playing style would be more beneficial to the team.
