I think Nelson has the physical attributes to be a good player but he needs to unlock those abilities.

My man has to put the blinders on and step it up like the rest of our starting eleven.

I think the new contract makes sense. We still need squad numbers atm for next season. He has a year to prove himself, and if he doesnā€™t make an impact next season we can easily sell to another PL club. Smart business IMO.

It makes sense for Nelson to sign a new contract, then maybe sell him later.
He wonā€™t be on massive wages, he knows the club and we donā€™t have to replace him.

But realistically, if he hadnā€™t scored the winner against Bournemouth and was a player at another club, we wouldnā€™t be giving him a second look.

So far every time he has come on the field it looks like something is about to happen, plus he has all the attributes to succeed, for me it was always his mentality that held him back.

Arteta must really rate the guy, I think heā€™s performed well when require this season but are we gonna ignore how bad his availability has been?

Is it really a lot? This is similar to the Nketiah deal for me. If he stays 4 years itā€™s Ā£5.2M a year + Ā£5M signing on - who are we buying to replace him for less than Ā£26M taking into account wages and fees?

Is this not low risk? We signed Fabio Vieira for Ā£34M + add ons and Ā£45k a week. Over the same time period, he will cost us almost Ā£45M where Reiss will cost us Ā£26M - I donā€™t think this signing makes any difference other than helping with depth.

It might suggest thereā€™s actually a plan for Reiss to develop with us and feature, rather than this being a contract just to protect his transfer value.

His role in the squad is basically Sakaā€™s understudy and with CL football next season that probably means more starts than he had this past season.

So perhaps heā€™s trusted to be starting some games for us. Could make a big difference to Saka if he doesnā€™t have to play every game and could come off the bench on 60-70 minutes if we need him to.
