What are football’s greatest “nearly” transfers? I always think back to Ronaldinho being very close to signing for United in 2003.
We probably end up with Cristiano if they got Ronnie that summer
Weren’t we being linked with Romario back in the day?
First I’ve heard of his link but that would have been amazing lol
I don’t think it was a solid link just a newspaper rumour
Maradona supposedly wanted to come to us back in the 80’s
We were looking at him at the same time that Spurs bought Ardiles and Ricky Villa ![]()
Blackburn almost signing Zidane and much later Lewandowski are quite funny.
In Zidane’s case, their owner Walker apparently thought he was too expensive, and supposedly asked “why would you want to sign Zidane when you have Tim Sherwood?”
They were actually going to sign Lewandowski but all flights were grounded cos of all the ash in the air from that Icelandic volcano erupting, so the move fell through and soon after he signed for Dortmund.
By no means the “greatest” transfers that never happened, but both quite amusing.
Close escape for Lewa
Imagine Lewa under the guidance of big Sam though!
You’re kidding, right? Lewa would have killed it playing alongside Morten Gamst Pedersen.

It’s mad how good he was for that few year spell, and sad that he is often overlooked because of a certain player that followed in his footsteps
Ronaldinho is one of most authentic players ever and football is worse without him or his type in the game.
That period from 02-07 is one of the greatest primes the sport has ever seen.
Specifically 03-06 where he was legitimately unplayable. The best player on earth and nobody came close to him during that time period.
@Bl1nk look at this abomination ![]()
Nice royal blue shirt to turn up in at Celtic.
Completely unacceptable.
Could have been done in Paint
The more I look back on Ronaldinho, the more I realise it wasn’t just a childhood fantastical memory. He really was a magician and a real great.
Football has evolved so much now days that the idea of seeing someone like hom any time soon feels unthinkable.
