That banner fall was beautiful though

World Cup 2026

  1. Quite a big tournament geographically
  2. It will take place across 3 time zones
  3. Mexico City as a location is 2,240m above sea level. The NBA went to that location maybe a week ago, and the player’s were visibly struggling with breathing

Azteca is no joke. The USA typically get their lunch eaten down there. That’s why I think Mexico will go really far. I’ve got them down for a quarter final at least.

They haven’t previously though.

They are famous underachievers but I think they now have the incentive to really shred that roster, get a new coach and push forward knowing they’ll probably play every single match at the Azteca.

How did they do in 1970 and 1986?
Is the final in New Jersey?

Alan Parry, great and unsung commentator of recent decades.

Him and Barry Davies are two of my three favourite football commentators ever

The fuck. I appreciate the current state of society. It ain’t great but we are a lot civil than we give credit for.

Agreed. I like Guy Mowbray too. People who don’t want to upstage the game or players they are commentating on.

World Cup final when Mbappe scored for the 2-2 he didn’t speak for ages in the celebration. Thought that was a great touch. Whereas the clown on ITV waffled nonsense throughout it

Was always a fan of Clive Tyldesley too just for the iconic games he commentated on and his voice. Wasn’t the most insightful of commentators but had some truly iconic moments.

Best piece of commentary ever in my eyes will always be Davies commentary of Maradona second goal vs. England in 1986

“You have to say that’s magnificent”

Just so simple

This was one of the most famous commentaries from Davies.

But the best football commentary is this from Moore, in the greatest league game.

Ray Hudson is the GOAT of commentary and I wont hear otherwise

I’m assuming you’re joking but his ridiculous over the top shtick really got people interested in soccer when he was doing La Liga.

It was a great gateway drug to discovering the sport. I can’t watch a game live with him doing the commentary though. It’s too distracting.

Yea lmao. He was ridiculously over the top. So bad it’s good

Yeah iconic. Especially how he removes any hurt or bias that could be excused after the first goal. Legendary.

There used to be a "how long before he mentions “that famous night in 1999"” challenge back in the day

Barely lasted 5 mins in some non-United games.

The Fast and Furious of football commentators.
