Raheem Sterling (30)

I always forget the January transfer window exists. And when I remember I always expect zero incomings, and that’s definitely what I expect this year.

There’s definitely options on the market, even on a temporary basis.
However, I think it really depends on how serious these two injuries to Sterling and Saka are.
If in a semi bad scenario that they’re out till February, I don’t think we’ll bring another player and power through with what we’ve got.
Nwaneri will probably get some more minutes on the right or up top as a result.
If it’s more serious though then it may make sense to bring someone in.

I heard someone say we have 2 loan players and that’s the max allowed. Not sure if thats accurate or if its 2 from pl clubs

Ah!

It’s 2 total

I guess a potential solution to that is cancelling one of the loans. But that might be a bit complicated.

Given the deal we extorted out of Chelsea for Sterling, I’d be surprised if that didn’t incur a significant penalty to get out of, if we can do it at all, and we do need Neto now we’re coming to a competition he might actually be able to play in.

And even if we cancelled one, we’d still have registered two players on loan this season. I don’t know if the rules would allow us to register a third if one of the others was gone.

The Raheem news sucks, especially in light of the Saka injury.

Dipping into the January transfer window and given the season we’re already having seems pointless.

The page says 4 is the limit in a given season.

They are:

  • Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time.
  • The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.
  • Premier League clubs cannot loan to another Premier League club a player they have acquired in the same transfer window.

Well, Neto isn’t going anywhere. We need a backup keeper.

So that leaves Sterling. I have no idea if our deal for him allows a cancellation or if the club would even do that.

Also, who would we be bringing in on loan who is a better option?

Yeah, I’m thinking Neto more than Sterling. If it’s possible we can push the signature of whoever they’re looking at as understudy to Raya up, cancel Neto’s loan and get some other forward on loan.

Mind you, even this is a very tricky task. Most likely scenario is that we just power through with what we’ve got.

Scenes in both North London, and Manchester, as an on loan Marcus Rashford bags the winner away at Anfield.

I can’t imagine Arsenal doing what you’ve described with Neto. For that matter I think it’s quite an unlikely thing for any club to do.

Arteta said he won’t be out for as long. Make of that what you will.

Could be a month, could be back before the season ends.

There’s our Saka replacement. If he stops playing so passively, I do think he’s a good option for us. Has a different style to all of our other wide players.

Well this is what his role is, cover saka when he needs a rest. It’s now going to be a bigger ask but he has to perform, remember this move was a big ‘I’ve still got it’ chance from his perspective.

He’s not been given much chance til now but this is the moment to take it.

Found it strange that he didn’t start but he had a good cameo anyway, especially in the second half.
Was more quiet at AET.

One of very few positives today

He tried at least so fair play to him
