When a player gets suspended it can be without pay. I believe Mendy’s was without pay.

At this point, the club should have a clause by default to cover these instances and make footballers liable to pay back the transfer & agent fees.

I’m sure there will standard clauses in player contracts that essentially allow you to suspend pay / terminate contracts if certain things happen which presumably includes criminal charges being brought against them. I seem to recall Mutu getting his contract terminated when he failed that drugs test years ago.

I am sure there will be as well but what about millions a club pays for a player in a transfer & agent fee (or millions a club would lose from sale).
Just seems unfair that a club loses so much money.
If Partey is indeed the one accused, we are losing 45m on him.

It’s a negotiating point like any other in a contract. It has some value to the club. I suspect it is incredibly common contract language for criminal activity that results in player not being able to perform or for bringing disrepute upon club.
Sounds like an insurance claim job to me.
The player plays no part in what the selling club demands and the buying club is willing to pay.
