Pre-2000s Football

Only saw this goal yesterday, has to be one of the best wolleys I saw.

I don’t think Buffon conceded another one from such a distance. Ridiculous hit.

Not a volley but I remember Seedorf scored an outrageous long range goal against Juventus with Buffon in goal back in like 2002. This was when he was at Inter.

Yes, thought of that too. Ridiculous distance, no run in. Rocket.

He actually did score a wolley in that game too. An amazing brace.

I find it remarkable how creative, attacking midfielders can’t make a mark on that club. Sneijder seems to be the only one in the past 25 years. Mkhitaryan to a lesser extant, but he was more of a central midfielder under Inzaghi. I think we need to go back to Djorkaeff to find another successful attacking midfielder for them.

Watch the above to understand the greatness of this man wasn’t just limited to his defensive ability but also his ability on the ball. It drives me crazy when people act like ball playing centre backs are a new phenomenon. Clubs across Europe utilised them for years it just took a while for the English game to catch up but even then the PL had plenty of players that were good on the ball in the 00s.

But yeah- Maldini was a genuine creative passer who could break the lines and spread the ball with accurate passes using both feet.

The world’s greatest defender ever no contest

An English journalist once said he was no better than Gary Neville lol

The most complete midfielder that I’ve witnessed.

I’d give the edge to Baresi but Maldini was incredible. Still blows my mind that he was right footed.

Proves the majority of people point that journalists know fuck all about anything really

Back when Serie A was the financial powerhouse :pires2:

We signed Henry that summer for £10.5-11m

We got a good deal.

Just meant he should be on that list

Carlo the only one not impressed by this goal.

Such a weapon to be able to cross inside of the defender and bend it with pace and precision back toward the man at the far post, instead of having to beat the defender toward the byline to get the cross away. Can any fullback in the world play this kind of ball today?

Honestly worth the 15 minute watch just to see how ridiculous he was. This is highlights from one of his first games at Inter
