And? You think without the striker we’ll be on our way?
Now imagine this season without Aubameyang’s goals.
Not really, but I think a better midfielder would improve us more than a better attacker.
Midfielders aren’t going to score the lion share of the goals, neither is our lack of depth in the wide areas.
It’s as if you’re happy to trade one issue for another with the latter being one that puts us in a bigger bind. Not sure why it’s a straight choice anyways, they aren’t necessarily mutally exclusive.
It seems there is still some mutual interest between him/Wanda and Juventus. If that comes to fruition is another story.
We managed to replace Henry, and RVP’s goals.
I’d rather he stay, but only if we play him St.
Martinelli-Edouard-Nelson
Gelabert
Partey-Ceballos
Would be a pretty feasible and logical front 6 if we don’t qualify for CL.
Coronavirus really kinda fucks us, though, not only because we might not get a chance to make a run at CL but because it’s going to be extra hard to find suitors for Lacazette, Torreira, Özil, and Xhaka, which could’ve given us extra maneuvering room to make more ambitious moves. That already above, + upgrading at CB and potentially RB, is a really optimistic panorama.
Ah, but I thought there was an agreed clause in his deal?
Anyways, more likely than my scenario above, we don’t manage to buy Ceballos or Partey, get one player worse than both of them, and Celtic tells us to fuck off/prices us out of a move for Edouard and we end up with something shitter. We really needed CL, Arteta’s bullshit against Olympiakos has kinda fucked us.
Martinelli-Rodrigo-Pepe
Özil
Soler-Torreira/Xhaka
hell incoming.
It’s just a option. Both parties can still say fuck that.
Don’t think we were ever going to see such an overhaul/complete new midfield tbh. Although Ceballos was already here. That is an €150 outlay. Probably possible with Auba going but I don’t see it happening.
van Persie got replaced by Giroud and Podolski. Perhaps not your strongest example? Lol
Van Persie wasn’t properly replaced til we bought they guy you’re advocating selling.
Yeah, that’s why I say it’s still pretty optimistic. Though I think 150m for Partey, Ceballos, and Edouard is probably a bit much post-Corona.
I do think we need to look into swap deals. Perhaps Torreira for Castrovilli, he’s seemed to break out for Fiorentina and seems to have Juve and the like interested, and his dribbling stats are top. Zambo-Anguissa maybe a cheaper alternative to Partey? he’s a player that’s also done well.
We might just be better off keeping Aubameyang against his will too, in a hope of qualifying for CL, if we are priced out of moves and have to settle for people like Rodrigo (don’t want more Lacazette type bum assets on our books).
I meant with or without the Rona Arsenal were going to sign two midfielders and two forwards. Just not the names we would like to see and they will probably be relatively cheap. Because of the BS of having to cut wages etc in january I don’t expect a lot (anymore) from the market. If Mari is/will become permanent the defense is set I reckon. Small stuff like that with maybe an outlier.
Yeah. But after Henry left he got replaced with Ade, who is several levels below him, and the team still took off. Van Persie was replaced by shit, but the following season still 10-12 goals less conceded, only 3 less scored, but still 3 points more. I assume @Electrifying meant that Auba’s exit doesn’t have to be detrimental to the team.
And van Persie and Eduardo, with a quality midfield behind them. Doesn’t feel too comparable to the current situation.
But that is what he wants to. To take that money and further (re-)invest in the team.
Unless he signs, Auba is gone I reckon. I kind of agree with Elec to not re-invest that in one striker, but 2 or 3 players.
I think we’ll be aggressive in the market, and I’m sure we’ll sign another CB not named Marí, I’m just not confident in our success, nor am I confident in us ridding ourselves of players (Laca, Torreira, Xhaka, Özil, Pepe) that would allow us to be more aggressive/effective.
How far is this Auba money gonna go? van Persie, Adebayor and Eduardo is what we had to replace Henry… The Auba money can’t buy that quality, let alone sorting out our midfield on top of it.
Replacing Auba now and replacing Henry then arent similar situations.
Market was a lot different back then too.
The inflation means selling one player that can demand a big fee and buying a few good other players is better.
Messi and Ronaldo aside, I feel like the difference between players isn’t that huge but the difference in fees is.
In any case, I would only ever want to sell the ST Aubameyang for like £150m
But RW Auba is a different story. No point keeping him if we are going to play him there.
Isn’t going to go far at all, not sure how much some are expecting for Auba with a year left.
We aren’t going on a shopping spree as if we were selling Harry Kane
Just like replacing Henry wasn’t done with just incoming transfers (van Persie was in his 4th season (and the replacement of Bergkamp anyway) and Ade his 3rd) current players also need to step up. Pepe f.e. in combination with one or two incoming forwards.
@AbouCuellar Saliba, Mari, Sokratis, Luiz, Holding, Chambers and Mustafi. I really don’t see another CB coming in.
We don’t have players like van Persie and Adebayor currently, this is my exact point in saying that replacing Henry is a poor comparison.
