Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Does it work tho we are like 10th and auba scores when hes upfront too, we have 2 more than capable left wingers available.
If we were top 4 and dominating teams us be like yeah it works. But we are not, we had a striker upfront who hadnt scored for like 12 games

15 goals and 1 assist in 25 games in the PL

So yes it works lol

Sorry 16 goals now lol

Both goals prime examples why you should start out from wide, you have one guy on you, or none, and you make your fast/tricky run and you’re in a much better position coming into the pen area than you would be otherwise (I mean this is what top players have been doing for what, 15 years now but if it still needs spelling out).

I dunno if I need to reply to that but its 5 goals from where he started from the left wing the others are from when he started upfront or from the right according to whoscored

Or did you actually think hes started every game left wing this season.

And another one! :auba:

Because apart from good movement and finishing he doesn’t offer much out wide imo.

His ball carrying and dribbling isn’t that good for a winger and we’d be better served to have somebody better in buildup there.

He works defensively as well. And the point of dribbling and ball carrying is to score goals, they’re means to an end with no value to themselves, what do you dribble for. He’s joint top scorer again from wide. he isn’t making room to accommodate for anyone. It’s a better position to play if you have his attributes. Moving him central would be sacrificing him to accommodate for something else, not the other way around.

It is though.
It’s like although Benzema is the main striker, Real’s attack was always built around Ronaldo.

Auba’s pace is more effective as an auxillary striker rather than the main striker

Bossed it today. Great FPL points from him also :fire:

Big old baller

Right. But we are tenth and had a minus goal difference until last week.

He was the only one scoring. His goals from out wide weren’t helping us be higher than that.

He is that good a goalscorer that he can score goals from anywhere. Moving him central and having Saka/Martinelli and Pepe alongside would result in even more goals imo.

I’m not as pissed about him out wide now because Eddie also has good movement and a decent eye for goal, but I’m still miffed.

We could have several setups that would work ofc, for me if you want those players at the same time then Saka should be a FB and play no matter what anyway, and then I would have a front three with Auba on the left and Martinelli central instead and Pepe right for example.

Little bit too simple. Players with (extraordinary) dribble skills can create overload situations, dismantle defenses by forcing players out of position after the first defender(s) are beaten without that leading immediately to a goal or assist. It does have very much value to have such a player on the wings.

It’s a means to an end for now. He’s just too good to not play and if he’s still contributing a goal a game from the LW, it’s easier for Arteta to throw Eddie up top where he has to focus on making runs instead.

Ideally, Auba plays as ST but for now, hopefully with Laca finding his shooting boots and Eddie popping up for a goal here and there, it’s about the best Arteta can deal with right now I think.
