Add to it Gabriel, Saliba and Mosquera and I don’t think there is really another club in world football with even an argument of having a better set of defenders.

Agree with you in terms of squad depth but this is where I have a hunch we will sign another CB in the summer, as I firmly see Calafiori and Hincapie as LBs now. MLS to be sent on loan for the season.

I don’t see O’Reilly as better than MLS yet the City player has been getting substantial minutes in midfield. I’d rather keep MLS here as I think he has lots to offer but wouldn’t be adverse to him playing regularly elsewhere in midfield for a year.

MLS could be a midfielder, but is currently a LB and he isn’t getting the minutes because Calafiori and Hincapie have been so good. So the choice we have in the summer is either free up a space in midfield for MLS (who doesn’t have much experience for us in playing in that position), or we go out and get a top quality midfielder to improve our strength and depth. I know which option I prefer.

If we can find the right loan deal for him for the season, so he gets good minutes, it means he can continue his development, and we can bring him back when he is ready to step into the first team. Plus, we need to find room for max.

It may be down to physical attributes as well. O’Reilly is a bigger body. Plus Pep likes to rotate his midfield more, even if it’s often in a weird way such as always benching Cherki lol
