Piero Hincapie (5)

expected better from him today tbh

Was brilliant.

C’mon guys.

You already forgotten how many moments like that Gabriel had up until a couple of years ago.

But yeah, let’s trash the guy who just had his first proper start for Arsenal.

Come on now, saying he was ā€˜less than exemplary’ or ā€˜expected better’ is not trashing the player. It’s a fair assessment at that moment in time.

It’s hard to come into a team partnering with an equally inexperienced CB (in the PL). Both of these guys have looked good because they’ve played with an established partner.

Throwing them both on away from home against our closest title rivals is a tough ask.

Not trashing at all but he’s had a hard game.

Thought he was decent. Think I’ll like him more at left back.

Definitely one of the candidates for worst players on the pitch.

I’ve lost count how many duels he lost.
Not an easy game of course.

Tbh it felt like we lost every duel today. Quite a shocking display all round. Somehow Cucurella got away with constant fouling.

Challenged today compared to Spurs and it showed.

He was tested but didn’t think he and Mosqi did to badly for their second ever game together

This.

Arteta is going to be very upset.

We did. That along with poor passing meant we never really had any control

Step up in competition today and like @SRCJJ posted, no calm, experienced partner like Saliba with him didn’t help.

Just glad that he didn’t get a second yellow. Nice tackle late in the game.

Looked much more defensively assured today. Won his duels and really puts his body on the line. Game by game I’m sure he will grow and adapt to the intensity of PL.

I agree totally. Looked very good tonight!

If our defenders keep dropping at this rate, we might be wishing we had Kiwior here.

can see us getting a cheap centre back in Jan with the amount of injuries we’ve had at the back

We shouldn’t really need to. Even in the current crisis - MLS was an unused sub last night and Saliba is close to a return. The rsest should do Gabby some good.

It’s not in ideal circumstances but at least we’ve had a good look at Mosquerra and Hincapie now - 1 goal conceded in 180 league minutes. That goal was a set piece!

It’s a very good sign that he’s been thrust into the starting XI and adapted very quickly. He’s really good with the ball and has a ferocity to his play that the team really needs.

Gabriel is our spiritual leader, and he’s an intimidating presence for the opposition. Hincapie restores some of that aggression on the pitch.

There is no other team in the league, maybe even Europe who can suffer injuries to their starting CB duo and their 2 replacements are at this level.

Losing even one of Saliba or Gabriel has proven to be ruinous for our trophy aspirations (losing Gabriel was a massive blow that probably stopped us from getting past PSG).

This season, we’re incredibly well stocked.
