Pep Guardiola

Yea I hadn’t picked up on the actual question he was asked until this morning.

If there is some evidence out there that he’s been getting off the book payments then the journalist has every right to ask those questions.

If it comes out in the open, and City get a ban then of course you’d naturally consider your position. As an individual, you don’t want to work for an organisation that breaks the rules and covers up “irregularities” as they seem to call them. My view of him would certainly change if he stayed there because by that point, there is nowhere to hide. His bosses are corrupt and he seemingly doesn’t have an issue with it.

My original comment was defending Pep’s reaction to being asked whether he’s taken side payments. The second post was more to do with a manager’s involvement in where his transfer budget comes from.

Of course if there’s proof out there that he has taken extra money on the sly, then he is indeed a bald fraud in every sense

I know who my vote for bromance of the year will be going to, most of OA and Pep

There is only one bald fraud in the PL and that’s Kroenke.
At least Guardiola doesn’t hide his lack of hair and is good for his club.

I don’t like the way Man City and other clubs just make a mockery of the system, but Guardiola is given a job to do and does it to the best of his ability.

At least he plays entertaining football, which is more than can be said of the biggest spender, Mourinho and is certainly successful.

If I had to criticise him, it would be for letting spurs beat Man City.
That is unacceptable.

Hope Guardiola leaves to Juve but hard to believe the rumors.

Maybe the lure of working with Ramsey will tempt him there. :grinning:

I’d rather they take Poch!

To be fair, people are talking about Man City as if they are the Celtic of the PL, and Guardiola is no better than Rodgers.

To win the PL and then retain it, while playing great football and getting almost a hundred points and goals in both seasons, is some achievement.

He has done won almost everything, it in three different countries.
What else can he do?

Do it with a Porto? Win the league with Roma, Milan or Inter? Win the league with Dortmund? Win the league with Marseille or Lyon?
He has always pushed big sides to win stuff but I would deffo like to see him with an underdog(currently).

Those teams can’t afford him and logically there’s no reason for him to go there and potentially fall on his face.

There’s a balance missing in any discussion people have about Pep. Unfortunately some cannot give him credit without talking about exuberant sums of money that have been spent whilst others refuse to use the sums spent as any sort of criticism.

The right ground for me is that he’s an incredible coach who improves players and motivates his squad as well as any manager. And if you gave that City squad to any other manager - would they be playing football like they do and breaking records like they are? Probably not. I mean Mancini and Pellegrini played with expensive squads and didn’t get close to this level of sustained success and style.

By the same token if you gave him a less talented squad to work with - would he be so incredibly successful? Probably not.

I can appreciate his greatness as a coach whilst understanding the criticism labelled against him.

That’s probably the right assessment and a reasonable person’s assessment of Pep.

And one I’d agree with definitely.

But I still want to call him a fraud for losing to Spurs from time to time.

Why would he?
He doesn’t need to prove anything.
Ferguson and Mourinho were also very big spending managers, as well as being successful, but Ferguson only won the big trophies at one club and, although Mourinho did it in different countries, he played a style of football that wasn’t very attractive.

It’s true that Guardiola has spent big, but his teams play great football and are very successful, so I don’t get why he is being put down as if he’s a fraud.

3 seasons with most expensive squad in history of football and no CL to show for.

Ferguson had a more expensive squad and only won it a couple of times in over a quarter of a century and he also outspent every other manager but was never called a fraud.

Guardiola has won a League title in almost every season he has been a manager, in what ever country he was in, as well as the CL for Barcelona, and domestic trophies for all the other clubs.
His teams play the best football and score the most goals and he’s broken the points and goal scoring records in the PL.

He was also a pretty decent player, winning La Liga titles and the CL.

You might not like him, but he’s hardly a fraud.

Absolutely. You can not like Guardiola but to suggest he’s a fraud for not winning the CL is pretty outrageous. I mean he’s a 2 time winner and he’s made 5 semi finals at minimum. His record at City has been bad, but he is far from a fraud.
