Pep Guardiola

It’ll be his 4th should they not implode the 14 point lead in January.

People riding Fraudiola’s dick arguing he has achieved a lot, while completely ignoring that Klopp had greater achievements with 50% of the budget.

Absolutely laughable.

If Pep had the same budget as Klopp, Klopp would have added 2 more titles to his list.

When a team consistently bags 95-100 points it’s indicative of a low quality League. The fact that the battle for top 4 features teams with 11+ losses and scoring only 50 odd goals should also tell you that

When European teams hit those points totals the league quality is belittled and called a farmers league.

It’s hard to argue that Pep is as good, or better, than Klopp, but if they are the top 2 managers, or even if Pep is just in a top 5, that doesn’t make Pep a fraud.

Or maybe it’s just because of his good these teams are.

Looking at West Ham etc in Europe it’s clear the EPL aren’t a low quality league.

Teams like us have 11 losses coz 4 are assured against the top 2.

But they are competing against Man City who have the biggest and best squad in Europe with world class players rotated every game.

When Guardiola went Man City he had a team that had recently won the title and was given almost limitless spending immediately.

When Klopp went to Liverpool, they had never won a PL title, they were not an established title challenging side and their spending was average.

The reason Klopp has Liverpool into one of the most dominant teams in Europe is down to his skill in the transfer market and his coaching ability.
What makes it so impressive is that he’s done it on a budget no more than ours.

Spending might not guarantee success but with the right manager it’s a lot more likely and without it, there won’t be much sustained success.
There is no way that Chelsea, Man City or PSG would be where they are without spending but it’s how it’s spent that is important.

I agree.
Winning the league is a lot more difficult because you have to play every team.
But in a knockout competition it’s possible to avoid some of the bigger clubs.

They are clearly the two best managers in Europe.
The difference is that Klopp could have done what Guardiola has done at Man City but I’m not sure that Guardiola could have gone to Dortmund and Liverpool and achieved what Klopp has.

Spot. Fucking. On.

It was (as a league) so much more competitive when Arsenal and Manchester United were winning it. There was always the chance of Arsenal/Manchester United losing or dropping points to relegation fodder in pursuit of the league title (and I can cite a number of examples to this)

IMO @SRCJJ, these 2 clubs are making a mockery of the best league in the world.

Yeah because Arsenal and United probably aren’t as good as these 2 are, hence drop points with more regularity to the cellar dwellers.

I’ll say this though @SRCJJ 07/08 was as strong as I’ve seen the EPL’s top 4

You barely followed football then

I can’t say much for United in the mid 90s but you were talking about Arsenal and United from late 90s yeah ?

This bullshit again.

Players Over 30s - Yaya Toure(33), Bacary Sagna(33), Zabaleta(31), Fernandinho(31)
Players (30 years old) - Clichy, Kolarov, Navas, Silva, Kompany

Fernandino & Silva were in their prime.

Rest of the squad Pep inherited included the below players

  • Aguero (28) in his prime
  • De Bruyne (25) in his prime
  • Sterling (21)

Pep then went on to add

  1. Claudio Bravo
  2. John Stones
  3. Leroy Sane
  4. Gabriel Jesus
  5. Gundogan

You can’t tell me that Pep was somehow disadvantaged in 2016-17 with below squad

Bravo
Zabaleta Stones Otamendi Kolarov
Fernandinho Silva De Bruyne
Sterling Aguero Sane

With a backup 11 of

Caballero
Sagna Kompany XX Clichy
Fernando Gundogan Yaya Toure
Navas G.Jesus Nolito

Are you really going to make excuses for Pep there?

I’d have agreed with this if I didn’t think United, Arsenal, Spurs were just so far behind

The fact we’ll likely bag top 4 without a competent striker and kids on the flanks says a lot about the quality of the league right now in my eyes

I think this Liverpool and City team could stand in any era and win trophies without a doubt. I just think there’s an overall lack of quality outside of the top 2

Yeah that’s a point, I don’t think the cellar dwellers or bottom half are any worse, but yeah teams 4-6 probably not as strong as you’d like.

Zabaleta - finished
Sagna - finished
Kolarov LOL
Kompany - injury prone
Otamendi - the Argentinian Mustafi
Navas - shite
Clichy - shite
Fernando - shite
Nolito - not good enough
Yaya Toure - not willing to work hard for the team

So who’s taking bullshit?

We were comparing to Klopp’s 2015 squad though remember, do you want me to give you a one liner run down on each player in that ?

Did I compare them? I don’t recall

Agree with your point about 07-08. I’d also say that in general I think European football was as good as it got around the later part of that decade in terms of strength across teams.

Milan, Inter, Barcelona, Real Madrid, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern all had quality teams at some point between 07-11

Bravo - Prime
Stones - Promising
Silva - Prime
De Bruyne - Prime
Fernandinho - Prime
Aguero - Prime
Sterling - Promising
Sane - Instant Impact

you can pick & choose but it is also a manager’s job to bring out the best out of his older players.

Give Klopp that squad and he wins the PL

Pep won’t with multiple tries
