A soon-to-be 29-year old who plays at Southampton at this point in his career hardly seems like someone who is good enough / a top 4 player / will grow to the level we aspire to be on.

He has a year left in his contract too.
The age profile is ideal when we have Saliba and Gabriel already here.

At Southampton. Playing the cb position is different if you go up a level. Iâm not sure somebody of his age can make the right adjustments. Obviously van Dijk made a bigger step up, but he was 26 at the time.
I donât mind going into the season with a 20-year old and 23-year old centre back. They both have had a decent amount of games to give it a go. Leno and Partey are their to provide balace imo.
I think Vestergaardâs style fits a bigger club more than Southampton. Probably one of the best ball playing CBs in the league at the moment, if not the best.
Heâs van Dijk but slower(not ideal but his positioning is smart). 
Given we most likely are gonna sign a young RB, we could end up in a scenario where Tierney is the oldest player in the back 4.
I think itâs key we sign an experienced CB to ease in Saliba.
