This would make more sense to me if Liverpool are not signing a striker and going to move Salah through the middle otherwise it just seems odd to go for a player that is a wing back and times a full on winger in the positions he takes up

It definitely would entail a significant tactical change. Frimpong is really a RW player in possession as you say. Not only does he operate in some of the same areas as Salah but he really isnāt much of a passer or ball progressing player at all, which is TAAās massive strength.
I think Frimpong will also prove very defensively suspect as a RB in the PL, more so than Trent.
