Olivier Giroud

I don’t think any of us care what he’s been doing since he left us, except maybe Pheobica. We have no regrets. He was and is a limited player and Serie A might be exactly the level that suits him.

Will say this, he’s managed to get the most out of his abilities and have a more successful career than much better players.

Yeah that tweet is spot on pre and post his time at Arsenal despite Arsenal fans and their selective biased memories.

Arsenal fans may not have regrets but you can be damn sure Giroud definitely doesn’t either, dude is flourishing in the 3rd act of his career and as bagged multiple winners medals whilst Arsenal have floundered outside of the CL since he left :man_shrugging:

Stay bitter though over fake a “drought” and one Monaco performance, pumping all that salt out seems very productive

Lol the guy didn’t net in 15 consecutive PL games. Nothing “fake” about it. It’s a fact.

His massive drop off in form / confidence came at the worst possible time for a title challenging team. Strikers will always get the blame when they don’t score for that long. There’s no agenda here. It just shows his level. Van Persie in the same team propels us to a league title. Auba from his first 18 months at Arsenal does the same. But Giroud showed his actual level, that he’s clearly in a tier or two below those kind of players.

Nah Giroud wasn’t the reason we didn’t win that title.
Collective fail. Capitulated lack a house of cards.
Not a fan of his but that season narrative has grown into a myth put on him.

Yea we lost that title in the United and Swansea games after the Leicester win. We were never winning it after that.

The fact that Wenger desperately tried to sign Vardy in 2016 says a lot of what he thought about Giroud after that disgusting 15/16 season.

It’s a fake narrative pushed by haters who need a convenient scapegoat whilst you ignore other players and the coach. It’s embarrassing including 15 min cameos of the bench as full PL “games” just to over exaggerate a point.

When you actually start to see the numbers he didn’t score in 7 games as a starter but still provided 3 assists in three of those games. A dry run like that isn’t even out of the ordinary for PL strikers

He made those cameos after he was relegated to the bench cause he could hit a barn door with his finishing.

His heading was decent but he was atrocious with the ball at his feet other than when he was in front of the first post. At the end of the day he was a strictly average striker who probably cost us a league title and a couple of cup runs.

But he has never been an extremely prolific striker, it’s not just that one barren run. He only ever had one season with us where he scored 1 goal every 2 games and he was a part of teams that had plenty of creators in them.

The fact that he is regularly cited for his “all-round play” is sort of evidence of the fact he isn’t prolific.

I think most of us ‘haters’ wouldn’t really have a problem if people were just saying Giroud is a decent striker who is good at getting others involved but the love-in seems to have reached another level.

Now he’s a clutch gawd and some big dog big nuts killer forward. Dude plays like fucking Kevin Davies half the time lol

The guy was just an overall average player.

Flourish else where, just not a PL player, especially for Arsenal

In the French squad. How many goals off Henry is he? :nail_care:

Don’t think you have a choice.

Giroud breaking Henry’s goal scoring record against Denmark will be a lot of fun

Toss up to figure out who the bigger grifter is, Giroud or Bernie Madoff.

No has ever labeled Giroud elite or prolific, it’s actually laughable to suggest there some kind of “love in” for him when people are just waking up to the fact he’s incredibly underrated at a CF after deluded Arsenal fans spewed the narrative he was total shit “lampost”. It actually after he left Arsenal and he contributed for others in big moments that the underdog narrative started develop. It’s an actual disgrace Giroud is in better standing with fucking Chelsea fans compared to Arsenal fans who still shit on him years later.

He’s currently an effective and productive piece for a top European side in his mid 30s yet you still get gooners labeling him “average” despite his CV, that’s hating. I wouldn’t have an issue with Giroud’s detractors if they were even close to being balanced or fair about him. But no please continue posting shitty lowlights comps and crying that he’s the only reason Arsenal didn’t win the league.

The main point which triggered this, was if Giroud is clutch. He objectively is, based on his productivity and impact in big moments and big games across his career. The evidence is clear if you want to see it unless you have a bias.

Just based off his contributions to Milan last season he meets the definition and he has produced clutch moments for every club he’s play for, including Arsenal which people choose to ignore :man_shrugging:

I don’t remember him being particularly clutch for Arsenal or France. I think that really started for him when he went to Chelsea and washed us in the EL final.

He’s never been a really good goal scorer for me but scores great goals.

Do I blame him for us not winning the title? Absolutely. He, along with a few others, really shit the bed. I also think if he wasn’t so clunky, Wenger wouldn’t have moved for Lacazette (and we all know how that turned out).

In his penultimate season with Arsenal, Oli did score quite a few game-changing goals when coming off the bench.
