OA Biscuit Club

A dedicated thread to discuss your favourite biscuit…

Is the Hobnob the God tier of biscuits, or does the humble Digestive reign supreme?

And are you are dunker? If so, what’s the best biscuits to dunk?

I’m glad this serious issue is being given a space on the OA website.

I think the dark chocolate Hob Nob is probably at the top of the league, but it can change depending on mood. Special mentions for Fox’s Crunch Cream, Garibaldis, coconut rings and any brand of shortbread fingers with sugar on top.

I do dunk, sometimes. Tea and coffee, though I could talk for hours on which biscuits go best with those two drinks. Coconut rings with coffee (I love coconut coffee) and the hob nob with tea.

Garibaldis…now that’s a biscuit I’ve not had for ages! I’m going to have to buy some now

When it comes to dunking, I am partial to a Custard Cream. A pretty standard biscuit but is close to perfection and has a good absorption rate.

This time of year I always treat myself to a tin of M&S Shortbread. The Shortbread biscuit has to be one of Scotland’s best exports!

And keep those MFers in the freezer ready to binge in one sitting.

I suppose you have them in the UK, but we have a small, gingery/cinnamony flavoured biscuit here with the word ‘Lotus’ embossed on them (can’t think of the brand name offhand - Biscoff, maybe). As a coffee dunker, these are supreme.

Oh my Biscoffs are lovely. We also have Biscoff spread which is amazing in croissants.

Haven’t seen the spread anwhere in the stores here. Tim Horton’s, a national coffee shop chain here, are pushing a donut topped with a spread and Biscoff crumbs. Gonna be worth a try.

Love a shortbread finger. Also, Fox’s half-coated chocolate cookies, and any kind of Hobnob, depending on the mood.

I’m not morally against dunking, as some are(!), but for me it doesn’t add anything (other than mushy wet crumbs in my drink)

Not a fan of anything gingery though.

Bourbons and coffee is magic

Yeah I dig that too! And they taste much better when dunked in coffee rather than tea, whereas the reverse is true of Custard Creams IMO!

Biscoff is great, there’s a great supply of it in the UK

We have the biscuit, the spread, and dessert shops will sell waffles/crepes with the biscoff flavoured ice cream and sauce. I do prefer the spread more than the biscuit itself, I think the flavour is stronger.

For overall biscuits, I think custard creams and digestives were my go-to, but I’ve never gotten into the dunking thing.

Which would be the best biscuit to do first if I wanted to try it?

For a first time dunker, I don’t think you can go wrong with a Custard Cream. They have a decent absorption rate too, and the flavour of the tea enhances the biscuit.

Digestives aren’t bad, but come with a health warning when it comes to dunking, as they can break off easily and you don’t want half a biscuit at the bottom of your mug!

Also, never dunk a Rich Tea biscuit…has the texture of wet cardboard :joy:
