No you’re right. I’ve just double checked. Havertz was top with Saka until he came back. The 3 goals he scored after returning meant he surpassed Havertz.
That is complete nonsense with respect to Havertz, who has 32 goals and assists for us over two years in the league despite playing a good chunk of that time as a midfielder and who is one of the best forwards in the world out of possession and at winning aerial balls to beat the press.
Havertz has been a better buy than Jesus, easily. He has more output and played more in two years than Jesus has in three years and has a ton of value right now whereas Jesus’s value is basically negative currently.
I find it funny how this has become some sort of justification for his average goalscoring record whilst he was bought as a midfielder, was a complete and utter misfit as a midfielder for this team and became a striker because, indeed, Gabriel Jesus is injured all the time and he was a last resort. That’s a waste considering that for 60 million you could have found an actual attacking midfielder or striker and not a half measure (for the midfield he isn’t even a half measure, he is no measure).
This whole thing of buying players that are half measures and having to replace them a few seasons later because of inherent inadequacies needs to stop.
Havertz and the like are decent up until a defined point but in the end aren’t good enough
I was never for the signing and just because he gets a certain level of production ( a better player would hugely outproduce him) doesn’t mean he is some kind of win.
I think he should be moved on by next season because 300K a week for a backup who can only really play one position is poor use of funds and doesn’t make much sense
If Arsenal were signing Madueke from PSV for £25m then this might be a worthwhile gamble. The fact that they’d have to pay double that price for what is essentially a Saka backup is messing with my mental
And who are the great attacking midfield or forward players that have sold to PL teams in that 55-65m range since we bought Havertz?
Mount, Hojlund, Solanke, Neto, Doku, Szoboszlai, Antony, Mudryk, Brennan Johnson, Anthony Gordon, Marmoush, Joao Pedro, Elanga, Cunha, Mbeumo etc.
Havertz has been one of the better buys in that group. He’s been an important player for us for two years and continues to have a lot of value, neither of which you can say for Jesus.
