I don’t really think he’s anywhere as shit as most seem to be making out and his pace, directness & ball carrying does cause a lot of teams issues. But that hardly makes wasting big funds on him any less stupid.
I’m quite concerned about the Nwaneri situation in all this. Something just seems a bit off about that.
Don’t forget we also signed Gallas, Diarra, and Benayoun from them too…they were all pretty meh signings.
Personally I am more concerned about us getting the players we need so Arsenal can win. If this helps Chelsea, this is incidental in my view.
Havertz, Jorginho, Cech, and Keppa have all been good signings IMO. I think you could also argue Luiz was also a good addition, given where we were as a club back then. Willian was on a free and on paper looked a good move, but just didn’t fit the team. Sterling was a loan, and again, at the time it looked like he could come in a do a job for us.
Too much is made of helping Chelsea…we need to do the right thing for Arsenal first and foremost!
He was with us when he was a schoolboy but it seems more important to Arteta that Chelsea have at some point rejected him so perhaps someone can photoshop him in a Chelsea shirt to convince Arteta to sign him. :grinning
Madueke would be a good signing as a backup across the front three but not as a starter or for a massive fee, Eze plus this guy would be decent but not Madueke instead of an Eze type signing
Super agent Ali Barat is involved in making the > deal happen and there is already an agreement between Arsenal and the player, like Gyökeres, over a five-year deal.
Talks with Chelsea are ongoing and could be all done by the end of the week, the source said, for a fee of around €50m. Chelsea signed Madueke from PSV Eindhoven in 2023 for €35m.
Arteta has always been a big fan of the England international and Arsenal looked into his signing last summer. Even if his best position is as a right winger, where Bukayo Saka plays, Arteta believes he can develop him into a great left winger.
