Regarding Pepe & Arteta’s dealings with the original squad.
The only senior players not signed by Arteta who is still here (removing Academy promos):
Saliba
Partey
Elneny (lol how is he still here?)
Everybody else has been shipped out for basically nothing, apart from Xhaka. I understand that was the squad where we finished 8th twice in a row, but still
This is true, but Smith Rowe or Vieira could’ve played those games and we’d still have 10 out of 12. Maybe even all 12, as they wouldn’t be so lethargic going forward.
Be honest, nobody knows what happened to ESR… Not even featured once…
If Arteta sees a player (Vieira) as an impact sub, then he is the impact sub, as simple as that. Just like Trossard right now.
If Arteta believes Vieira and Trossard will make a bigger impact when coming on in 2nd half than starting, he will keep doing the same.
Maybe not exactly the same but I can think of one comparison.
Germany played breathtaking attacking football in 2010, but Jogi Low changed the tactics completely after that. From fast and free flowing football to boring possession football, Ozil made ways for Kroos as focal of attack…
Then they won in 2014.
This is true. The ESR thing bothers me, I feel like it’s make or break for him this season, either he breaks into the first time and becomes a permanent mainstay or he’s leaving in the next 12 months, guaranteed.
If Arteta can replicate the greatness Joachim Low achieved with Germany during those years, I’ll take everything back
I do wonder what’s ESR current market value if he we to be move on. Would we still get that £30m+ Villa were offering a while back or would we insist on Palmer level money
I don’t know his contract situation but I think that 40m range is what we should be looking at if we were to sell. Problem is it means we will need to be selling to a rival or at least one of the teams a bit below that.
Hope he does well there. Always seemed like a nice dude, just not sure he had the mentality to live up to his price tag or be a key player in thr upper end of the PL table.
