Nicolas Pépé | Deal completed!

We might have had a 45m budget from the club profits but didn’t we also get 40m from Adidas as well as 30mm from wages saved from Welbeck, Ramsey, Cech, Lichtsteiner and a few others?

Sky Sports news saying PSG indeed made a late approach yesterday, but Arsenal are ‘confident’ of completing the deal.

Basically nothing we already knew

Pepe won 5 of the 9 penaties he converted, so he’s created most of the penalties he scored

2 of Sarr’s goals came from penalties or penalty rebounds

Sarr at his age will likely improve but won’t further develop his technique

You certainly could. It doesn’t mean it is £45m though

And you can’t argue that it makes for a great narrative when going into negotiations.

That leaves £25m left for Tierney and a CB, hence why we’ve been saying something like £15m up front for Tierney so we can keep the £10m in reserve for a CB in other staggered payments.

I don’t feel you can teach that level of technique though. If Sarr had it in him he would have shown it already.

It doesn’t matter who threw the first turd that stuck tbh. What the fans want is confirmation and that’s what you get from the Orn.

What’s the point championing journalistic integrity in a crass field like football transfer rumours anyway?

Pepe’s a special player, what he’s doing atm is on the level with young players like Hazard and Mbappe, to compare him with the like of Gervinho, Theo, Sarr is pointless. He’s better, in nearly every way, dribbling, touch, vision, technique and scoring.

That costs money. We should be excited, every transfer brings risk but you significantly lower that risk by going out to get the best talent you can. I think for once we’ve done that.

How can it be closed if he hasn’t signed a contract yet?

That’s pretty simplistic. I think it’s possible that playing in the Premier League instead of Ligue 1 and playing with one of the greatest goal-scorers of his generation may also have contributed to his not getting to 20 goals scored. But he was voted Arsenal’s Player of the Season because of his overall contribution, so obviously there was more to his game (as you duly note) than just taking penalties.

By the same token, I don’t think Pepe will be a failure if he doesn’t reach 20 goals. His contribution will be, presumably, more than that. All these players, together, will be expected to lift each other up.
