The game you don’t want to play after as somewhat negative result and all the criticism after City.

Actually in a game like this, against all the intesity and phisicality Newcastle will throw at you, a midfield of Merino and Rice would be somewhat justified.

Not sure if Ode can be ready for this though?

Even with all this in mind, I’m not sure Merino really offers that much athleticism on the pitch. Surely useful at set pieces, but doesn’t really offer a physical presence as nearly as Rice does for example.

Maybe it’s still better to play Eze and try to exploit the space Newcastle will offer at times. I don’t Merino will give us any added security aside the one on set pieces.

On a side note, not just regarding this game, I’d really like to see us using someone in an actual 10 position, swiching to a 4231, giving him the freedom behind the striker and the ability to punish the opponent in that area.

Seeing Odegaard in this 8 role, with all the defensive duties he has, and usually pulling to that right side rigidly, basically not using the central area of the pitch much got really tiresome.

Sure, in some games, we have to have a 3 man midfield, with all of them a bit deeper to the ball out, but I also really think many games offer a posibility of switching to a 4231 with either Ode or Eze as a 10 and we aren’t using that at all.

I do think Arteta is at fault to some extent for Ode’s rigid, sterile perfomances. Really has to give him more freedom at times. Atm I’d like to see Eze giving us that creative spark there.

It would also suit Rice, playing a bit deeper, in a two man centre midfield, where he would still have the option to make a late run here and there but doesn’t have to stay very high up the pitch all the time.

We won’t beat Newcastle. I’ve seen nothing so far this season to suggest Arsenal will get all three points. Very disappointing start to the season. We’ve beaten the teams we should be beating, fumbling at Anfield and not putting City to the sword. To much boredom football and simply not enough of going full speed on teams add to this more injuries it’s not looking like progress to me .

Draw.

Newcastle will game-raise to ensure we drop points.

Aah, an away day at St James’ Park.

I’d rather get a root canal than have to deal with those neanderthals.

Time for Joelinton to run around the pitch, kicking and elbowing people, while the ref is completely blind to it.

Draw at the absolute best. They will beat us up through the middle, get away with 36 blatant fouls and we will provide very little in terms of incisive play despite more possession.

Newcastle have been very very good defensively this year but offered almost nothing going forward. Three 0-0s in five matches!

I think its going to be a tough watch but the small margins go for us this time - 1-0 or 2-0 Arsenal.

When was the last time we won there?

2022/23, Ode winner from outside of the box?

Yeah, that’s the game. Would be nice if we could pull off something similar.

Jorginho masterclass that day

got a bad feeling about this game :santi:

I feel not only are we gonna lose this but these scummers will end up injuring more of our players also. Look how they were handling our team even in preseason. I hate these lot :charlie:

This game is going to be a slugfest unless Odegaard is back.

Having Odegaard and Havertz out at the same time really hurts in these big matches. Arteta is thinking about how we’re going to play past their press and how we’re going to control the game off the ball and those are such key players on both counts.

We can’t afford to drop points in this one, so it doesn’t matter how we perform as long as we get the win. Also, given how injury prone we are, playing these brutes always makes me nervous.

Mikel just has to find a way to get 3 points here, anything less and we’ll leave ourselves too much to do, even this early in the season.

Proper smash and grab that one. They were all over us in the opening minutes, got that pen that thankfully was overturned.
Odegaard scored fantastic goal but I do remember we still suffered a bit until the second goal which pretty much killed them, Ramsdale was outstanding that day.

Always a massive atmosphere, Sunday 4.30, theyre all going to have been on the beer, it will be loud again.

We need to go there with a positive mindset, none of this sitting back and keeping it solid. We need to attack and take the game to them. Start Eze, start Saka, start Martinelli.

He played an ultra defensive side against City at home. What makes you think he’ll go balls out, gung ho against a team that beat him 3 times last season, who are much more physical than City, that too away from home.

Am expecting the same midfield of Rice, Zubi and Merino or Norgaard. Hopefully, his game plan of keeping it tight at the back and sneaking a goal somehow works this time. 3rd time is a charm, right?
