Mohamed Salah

If you’re judging by careers, it’s obviously Ronaldo by a mile but if you’re just looking at their PL seasons then Salah is ahead.

Ronaldo really only had three years in the PL as a top player and only hit over 18 goals once. He basically left the PL before hitting his prime and his career is uptimately defined by his time at Resl Madrid.

Salah has eight top level seasons in the PL including two at least as good as Ronaldo’s famous 07-08. He has been insanely productive.

The eye test for Ronaldo in 2006/07 and 2007/08 puts him way ahead of Mo Salah.

Absolute game changer and he won them the league by wrestling it off Chelsea the first year and then fighting off a sustained challenge from us the next.

It’s a no contest.

The eye test might put him ahead but it only lasted three seasons and Salah was actually far more productive in the final third over a much longer time.

The PL has had relatively few true footballing superstars so I guess people want to hold onto Ronaldo’s time in the league but in the end United was just a launching pad for him.

Hardly. They don’t have that successful stint without Ronaldo.

Obviously he was a huge part of that team but I’d argue the rest of the side was better than Salah’s supporting cast. Rooney is one of the best PL players of all time, they had maybe the best PL CB partnership ever, Tevez, Berbatov, Scholes, Giggs, Evra, a great keeper. That side was loaded to the extent that they could lose Ronaldo without really replacing him and still win PL and go to CL final in the next few years. Had Liverpool sold Salah without replacing him, they’d never have competing for those kinds of trophies.

To say Ronaldo is way ahead of Salah in terms of PL is just a garbage take

Too many turn their noses up at what he’s been in the PL

As if Salah hasn’t been a game changer for Liverpool, even this season is an all time carry job by him

Easy to see a lack of knowledge of subject matter at times with some IMO

They absolutely couldn’t, this is the whole point. It wasn’t a launching pad. He had his formative years in 2004 and 2005 and then was at the heart of everything Manchester United did in each of the 3 seasons before he left for Real Madrid.

Short term recency bias to have Salah ahead of Ronaldo.

(Just re-read, you mean 2011  beg your pardon)

Salah has had the better PL career.

I will say this though:

  • Pretty sure one of Ronaldo’s seasons he started producing Fergie was still playing 4-4-2 and wide players contributed in a different way back then.

  • If Ronaldo played the same role Salah did he’d match his numbers (maybe even better them)

However I’d also say:

  • United’s team is objectively better than the Liverpool squads Salah played and produced in. Ronaldo’s teammates were Rooney, Tevez, Carrick, Berbatov, Ferdinand. Class of 92? Streets ahead.

Yep.
Before Salah I would’ve gone with Ronaldo-Rooney-Henry.

Without Salah, Liverpool wouldn’t have won a PL title and will probably be the same this season but Man U did win titles before and after Ronaldo.

As for Henry, has there been a better PL striker for pace, skill, finishing and game changing goals?

Rightly or wrongly, CR7 is the only Premier League forward to win a Balon D’or. He is in the argument for the best player that this league has ever seen. I’m backing Thierry, but C.Ron is in the convo.

Salah has been incredible but I can’t put him over the top 2. If it’s a front two it’s Henry plus Shearer or Rooney. If it is a front three then yes, Thierry, C.Ron and Salah in that order.

No, that’s not how you do it. Learn from the professionals.

You have to say:

“Michael Owen won one, no?”

So that you make it look really casual and not at all like you’ve googled it several times because your entire life revolves around people being right on the internet.

Fuck sake, with all the new posts thought an announcement had been made on his future.

Fairly sure that I’m right in saying it was not the same Balon D’or or process though? I am aware that Micheal Owen won a version of the balon.

Is the new format more legitimate?

Google seems to think it was the legit Balon. Could have sworn there were two awards at this time. World Footballer of the year or something.

Annoyed because initially I was going to state that Ronaldo was the only Premier League player to win a Balon, but then I remembered Rodri bagged one.

I’d go with No as Thierry never won one.
