Mohamed Elneny

If it was up to the ‘fanatics’, Mo would have been gone last summer. It’s the simple fact that Arteta rates him all of a sudden and clearly wants him to stay.

Quite mad that Arteta has made him a Partey clone and Wenger couldn’t get a tune out of him roflmao :bergkamp2:

It’s literally a change of circumstances and him performing that has people changing their minds. That didn’t happen last season and people wanted to move on. Those were the facts then, these are the facts now. Not everything has to be a gotcha.

Do you have a graph with pointy bits on it to illustrate your point?

Neither.

Still got no problem with him getting a new contract. In our current guise he’s as good as it gets for a fourth choice central midfielder, and signing a better fourth choice central midfielder isnt the thing thats going to prove to be the difference between us getting CL football or not, thatd be signing some better first teamers and deciding to have a sensibly sized squad instead of actively deciding its a good idea to play half a season with 19 players or whatever the fuck.

He’s probably our 3rd choice CM yeah ? Or am
I forgetting someone ?

I do agree the starting player upgrades are the thing that’ll move the needle the most though.

Partey, Xhaka, Lokonga/Elneny

Suppose hes been more like third choice recently but earlier in the season was probably more like fourth choice, with Lokonga getting more of the minutes.

My memory is a bag of shite though so may be fuzzy on those details.

Yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of comments on here lately along the lines of “this performance is evidence of why we shouldn’t keep players like Elneny” but for me the issue is the overall depth meaning guys like Elneny are starting numerous games in a row when they really shouldn’t be. Similar situation with Rob Holding.

We don’t even really have many injuries in midfield either, it’s pretty much just Partey lol which, like you say, shows how terribly thin our squad is.

Problem we have with getting rid of Mo is that we just exacerbate the depth issue even further when we are still probably 2-3 players short in midfield anyway. I’m happy to upgrade on him of it meant we weren’t affecting depth but it’s pretty unrealistic to expect us to get rid, replace him AND sign the required numbers all in one or even two windows.

Elneny :white_check_mark:
Nketiah :grey_question:
Lacazette :grey_question:

Dont mind him as 6th choice. Everyone needs loyal servants.

Him and Nketiah are pretty benign options for an EL campaign so I don’t mind but fuck me if we sign that fat cunt Lacazette up I might break down. Nearly as detrimental to attractive football as Xhaka and even the latter has managed to have some decent moments this season

Great deal for the club

That’s the way it should be. That way he has to fight for his next deal.
In theory, we could sell him January if we feel we don’t actually need him.

Eh it’s ok

Fucks sake. Gotta be getting rid of useless shitters like this.
