Mohamed Elneny

Is there anyone in our youth team who we could have relied upon to deputise for Partey at this crucial stage of the league season?

Elneny is no good. No point giving him a contract and then he is shit again.

Might as well sign some youngster if there is no one available from youth

Lackonga, obvs

This kind of adds to my point though

Talks a lot of shite generally but has his moments here and there

Any examples of him getting it horrendously wrong recently?

Fine keeping him as 5th choice CM for another couple years.

I hope Arteta gives Sambi every chance in the world to be the primary backup to Partey but we still need another option if he doesn’t take those chances. And if the new CM we bring in is more of an 8 like Tielemans then it’s not going to be that guy.

He was one of the first to shit on Torreira too.

I hate this idea of just bringing up kids from the youth team. The vast majority of young players in our academy will never be good enough to play for Arsenal.

Elneny has prove himself a capable deputy and has stepped up the overall quality of his all round game.

He’s experienced, good age profile and more than happy to play the bit part role that he does

The argument that Mo should be upgraded is really not one based in reality. We are still short in midfield and it’s unlikely we sign 3 new midifelders, so I find it hard to want to get rid when he is happy and capable of doing a job throughout the season.

Obviously we’d all love to have 3 or 4 Partey level players but is it realistic in the time frame that Mo could also do a job, I personally don’t think so.

For real, people saw bring up kids from the academy like this is FM lol. Even some of our better graduates in recent years like AMN, Iwobi and Willock aren’t much better than Elneny, if at all. Just giving opportunity to youth for the sake of it is how you end up with dross like Frimpong.

Elnenys shortcomings are more about what he can’t do than what he does do. He’s a solid, unspectacular player but a very handy squad option with loads of experience and proven reliability and he has improved under Arteta as well. I just think resigning him is far more sensible than just about any alternative

People thought Azeez and Patino were ready to run the midfield and shamed Arteta because of loaning them/developing them. Mad.

Two years is a good deal

Yup, Two year deal is good for both Elneny & Nketiah

I agree, because we are going to need a lot more players next season so this might work.
But if Arteta wants to play Sambi more, then I would sell Xhaka and use Elneny as back up to Partey and whoever else we bring in.
He’s a lot cheaper than Xhaka and less prone to idiotic mistakes.

Elneney works hard for the team so I can’t see why we would sell such an experienced player who has been here for so long and has never really let us down.

…Xhaka might fuck off after all.

Elneny is playing the best football of his Arsenal career.

Sorry Mo.

Reckon we would have gone all the way in EL if Arteta put his trust in Eddie and Mo in the SF against Villarreal.

In your defense he’s never really worked with a good manager before.
