Not the only midfielder we’re working on?

Camavinga AND Neves too mayhaps?

:ooo:

No, probably briefed that we’re looking at a number of options. Could be true, could be an attempt to rush Merino into joining. He’s keen apparently, the price won’t be an issue and it surely leaves money in the bank for an attacker.

I like the way we’re sorting out goal then back line then midfield before seeing how much money is left for an attacker.

Just learned he won the most duels out of any player among the 7 top leagues last season…

£21 million sounds like a nice price for a Spain international.

Who do you prefer?

  • Fabian Ruiz
  • Mikel Merino

Merino cos it won’t block us signing a better midfielder next year.

I voted for Ruiz for the same reason…Ruiz would tend to play a more advanced role. Wouldn’t stop up from signing a top quality replacement for Partey next summer.

Merino.

The sway of his hips in the LCM via zone 15/16/17 is something Ruiz cannot match him on.

I think Merino is the better fit profile wise to play with but also in place of Rice.

I can see midfield of Odegaard-Rice-Merino work and I can also see a midfield of Odegaard-Jorginho-Merino work.
Replace Merino with Ruiz in the latter midfield three and you essentially get 3 playmakers which may struggle physically.

Plus, I think it’s also a more affordable and painless deal to do.
Keep the big money for the forward.

Might get both :trossard:

I’m not convinced PSG wants to sell Ruiz. It looks to me like Neves in and Ugarte out. They have Moscardo coming in as well but he is very young and overall their midfield is incredibly young and inexperienced. I can see Luis Enrique wanting to keep Ruiz around as an older head.

I think it’s a deal that can be explored but yeah, PSG don’t need to sell him specifically. They’ve got other midfielders they could move.
It’s one of those deals that could easily drag while PSG are keeping their options open.

Ruiz played better but I worry Ruiz is one of those guys that does so well in a national tournament and then doesn’t replicate that form for clubs the year after e.g. Amrabat

Merino looks like he could do pretty well here, built for the PL.

Ruiz has been proven quality way before this EURO. No way he can ever get into that category.

Not sure how much he plays now at PSG, haven’t been watching them, but he’s been class at Napoli for years, also had good performances for Spain earlier…

Not sure how to rate him vs Merino though. Generally I’d probably fo with Ruiz, probably because I’ve seen more of him.
But maybe Merino simply hasn’t got a chance so far to shine in a bigger club/better surrounding, wouldn’t be surprised he turns out to be the better player.
