Mesut Özil

At his peak he was absolute Godlike as a number 10.

Sublime when he was motivated.

I honestly wish I could remember him more fondly, but the final few years of his time at Arsenal, and even his career since, have marred my view of him.

Truly a beautiful player in his prime though, no question about that.

He really soured my views on his career with that final period.

I also look at Wenger as being culpable for wasting the talents of the two world class players we signed in him and Sanchez.

Agreed.

You can’t tell me that if Wenger had pushed a bit harder on Gazidis and the owners that we couldn’t have somehow found the money somewhere for Higuain or Suarez or whatever to complete us up top. Unforgivable in the end.

Missed a trick not pairing Suarez with Sanchez. Imagine that South American grit and determination conbined. Opposition would’ve had no rest against those two together.

No way we couldn’t have put together the money for Higuain and Ozil in the same summer. It didn’t have to be one or the other.

And there’s also no way we shouldn’t have done more to sign a competent defensive midfielder in that time too.

Wenger held the club back for so many years despite being the catalyst for driving us forward for so many years before his decline.

Thats one of the rare games Alexis Özil and Lacazette all played together and scored

We finished 5th that season right? Shame about the mental fortitude of that team, the quality of play there looked great, even when 1-0 down.

6th.

We totally went into meltdown as 2018 began and it was the end game for Wenger

I still can’t quite understand what happened with this guy, it’s one of the biggest disappointments I’ve had with football.

He might well have been the most talented player to ever wear an Arsenal shirt to be quite honest, it’s basically between him and Dennis. But just imagine he had half the drive of Ronaldo or KDB?

The guy should still be here now playing a deeper CM role and still controlling games at the age of 34.

After retiring from international football, he had nothing to play for. Emery didn’t fancy him either and Özil knew it.

He had a mini revival under Arteta but lockdown killed his career for good.

FIFY

Eurghhhhhhh Zil is one of the most gifted footballers I’ve seen.

Still can’t believe we didn’t win something major with him here.

If he had the defensive contributions of Odegaard and had better attackers post-Alexis; he’d be Bergkamp level imho.
