It is a bit odd isn’t it? Wenger said he hasn’t seen him for a week and that he is still in bed. I refuse to believe that he has been in bed for a week! But if that really is the case then just tell us what is wrong with him. Has he got the flu? Or did he just have a cracking New Year?!
I got the flu since january, 1st as well
Straight outta bed
Welcome back Mesut!
Strong hair game.
Question: (based on a TalkShite discussion I unfortunately got roped into listening to last night)
Is Mesut Ozil among the top 5 in the Premier League in his position?
and
Is Dele Alli now BETTA than Mesut Ozil?
Are those questions for real? I can’t even imagine having a shade of doubt about the answer to either.
Alli is quality, bags of talent. Certainly has the potential to be rather special. But obviously isnt as good as Ozil right now.
Saying that, he is more in form at the moment… so…
In terms of top 5 central attacking mids… who even is in that list?
The consensus among the two presenters (one of whom is Andy Goldstein, 'nuff said), was that the following players are all superior:-
Pogba, Silva, Hazard, de Bruyne, Coutinho
thus placing Ozil outside said top 5. and the other discussion thread was whether Dele Alli is now on course to be (or already) better than the lot of them
Christ almighty…
For the uninitiated, who is Andy Goldstein? And why should we discount him?
Andy Goldstein is one of the presenters on TalkShite, fronting their evening ‘Sports Bar’ programme that is on air weekdays, 10pm GMT onwards
He used to fairly tolerable and inoffensive. Then I think he looked at how much coverage Durham was getting by winding up fans of certain clubs as an easy method of boosting listener audience. He seems to have changed now and will peddle any old crap to keep the dullards phoning in and keeping him in a job.
Goldstein used to be a Soccer AM presenter.
Goldstein is pretty harmless compared to most of the others on TalkSport, but that opinion can get in the bin!
He’s not alone though, dissing Özil is a fave hobby if you work in sports media.
You’re a scholar and a mensch. Thx for the quick bio. Sounds like a sports oriented Piers Morgan.
@Robin_L … I listen to the show on the way back from 7aside every Thursday night between 10-11 just for the ‘lols’. Jason (forgot surname) started going on how Dele Alli is amongst the best players in the world. He even went on to say how Alli is better than De Bruyne, David Silva, Mata and is on par with Eden fucking Hazard. He doesnt even class Ozil good enough to be mentioned.
The callers were putting him in his place though with valid points such as Alli went missing in the Euros and was abysmal in the CL. Even Scum fans were calling in and saying he has only just picked up form and should not be compared to the aforementioned attacking midfielders. I love the show just because of the way it winds people up.
Pogba and Hazard are not really playing his position. Disqualifies their list.
For our non UK posters, TalkSport radio is basically Radio Brexit: Sport
Talk Sport can be summed up in the Adrian Durham show.
Durham hates Arsenal, and does everything he can to wind the supporters up and get them to phone in.
His sidekick is Darren Gough, and ex cricketer who was born in Barnsley, yet supports spurs.
One of his more amazing quotes when talking about Wenger, was when he said “what has Wenger ever won?”
When the caller pointed out he had won three PL titles, Gough then went on to say, ":ok, apart from a few PL titles, what has he won?
Also, Hawksbee and Jacobs is just as bad.
Which ever one supports Chelsea, said that Zola was a better player in the PL than Henry.
You couldn’t make it up.
I listen to it frequently in the USA via internet (or rather Sonos in my case) - It is ridiculous, but I do love to stay connected to the English football community and occasionally they have intelligent/balanced people on, but yeah there is often a very anti-Arsenal and anti-Wenger agenda on TS.
Yeah that’s a fair point, do you listen to many English podcasts? There are quite a few that will give you a more balanced view
