Matteo Guendouzi

But they aren’t using the media to crucify the kid, they’ve barely said anything about it. Sure, they fed Ornstein some information today but that’s understandable when he’s been out for this period of time and we want to know what’s happening. Arteta gets asked about it in press conferences which is unavoidable when a player who’s usually in the squad is being left out and he gives very simple answers with essentially no information; he’s been as diplomatic as possible. Plus why would we want to get rid of him if these weren’t the real reasons? He’s a promising midfielder and we have so few options there as I said, and if we simply want to get rid because he’d command a big fee and we need cash, we could do so without making it known that there are issues and thus lessening our negotiating power.

I guess I’m just amused that you think there’s some kind of conspiracy here, when really I think the most logical conclusion for us to draw is that Guendouzi is just being a total brat. Again, does that sound unlikely to you? Is this a guy who strikes you as someone who wouldn’t behave this way based on what we’ve seen of him?

I don’t disagree of what you said.
Guen could be a prat, and most likely he could be.

Personally I just believe, we should be more forgiving to kids, to young people, because they have the right to make mistakes and learn from it. We don’t need to be too harsh on them.
There is no conflict in between professionalism and be more forgiving/tolerant IMO.
I do think punishment is needed, but no need to add more salt to the wound, and insult the kid in public.

That’s why I said, I am ignorant and naive

Yeah I think that it shouldn’t get to this stage and particularly with younger players you can give them the benefit of the doubt, but I just have a sneaking suspicion that he may be more difficult than we realize cause I just can’t see why else it would have deteriorated this way. We’ll see what happens.

Spot on.

I also think his talent level might get exaggerated at times. His best qualities are his desire to get on the ball, his passion and fight on the pitch, and a fairly good technical level. But he really is nothing special in terms of creativity and attacking thrust, nor does he have the defensive nous or positional discipline of a holding player. Obviously he is young and has a lot of room to grow. But he doesn’t seem interested in the role that would suit him best, becoming a holding midfielder who initiated the attack and played a disciplined role when out of possession. Unless that changes, he just seems like a fiery all action midfielder that doesn’t contribute much in either the final third or the defensive third, mainly just flopping around, putting in tackles, and spraying safe passes in the middle of the pitch.

I was thinking the same.

Will be happy to get rid of him. His attitude is undesirable and what he actually brings on the pitch is vastly overstated by some Arsenal fans. He definitely has an abundance of energy, drive and confidence but I don’t think the technical qualities are quite there for me to want to overlook what the club perceives to be a poor attitude.

Arteta is making an example of Guendo. I’m glad to see it

I think Guendouzi is very talented and actually when I try think about it modestly, I do reckon he maybe blossoms more elsewhere aswell as us benefit from a new addition in his spot. Our midfield has lacked creativity for years now. Guendouzi can keep a ball under control well and stay composed but we have really missed someone who can create space by getting out of tight spaces and picking a pass. Something that Ceballos has shown in glimpses and we hoped we’d see more of.

Like others, I love Guendouzi’s passion too and can certainly see why he relates with fans but the more important things do the talking here. If that were the case we should all be loving Mustafi for all the MJ moves he can pop out in a dance sequence.

It’s actually played into Arteta’s hands really well.

Arteta gets to thoroughly assert his dominance on the team and club by harshly dealing with a player that actually deserves it - he’s not just a scapegoat being used as an example.

Not only that, he’s young enough and had enough good games for us that there will be a strong market for him and good chances that we make our money back on him several times over while replacing him with a player (Partey) that is more in line with what we need.

Win-win for once.

The only plus point about Guendouzi is his energy on the pitch. Aside from that, his positional play is terrible, he makes far too many mistakes and he is hot headed. He would be better suited to a championship side looking for a player to get stuck in.

Imagine him at Barcelona

Thought £40m should be the very base

He is not that talented…40 million pound is a great fee for him.

Talent is a bit irrelevant, there’s alot of (misplaced) hype attached to his name and there’s alot of interest from top clubs. Not sure anything below £40m represents the best fee we could have gotten.

A Guendouzi x Partey swap seems like a better deal for Arsenal

We don’t know how genuine any of that interest is though. It might just be his agent stirring the pot a bit. Because I can’t imagine all those clubs want him.

That’s a fair point. I think he’ll have a decent market tbh

I can see PSG being interested, and it was rumoured Zidane was a fan too

Barca can only dream of 40m to spend right now, and they sure as hell won’t spend it on Guendouzi lol.

Can definitely see him going to PSG, or Atletico as Party swap.

£40m for him would be a huge success.

40m+1

Doubt they need our backup RB though.
