As someone who watched him all year, I’ve been saying this very same thing for months. He really doesn’t do much defensive wise…he’s very much the Xhaka of Hertha lol. However imo that’s a coaching thing. If you do go back to when he was being coached by Emery you’ll see a very different set of data. He pressured opponents a lot more and made a lot more tackles.
Ceballos, yes in fact Ceballos has a very high defensive work rate and you won’t find many midfielders in all of football that make more defensive actions per match than he does.
However with Xhaka…no. You should take a look at Xhaka’s defensive stats, he does even less than Matteo tbh.
In terms of stats maybe, but that’s because Xhaka drops deep to cover rather than to challenge because he’s been done for pace too many times. So at least he breaks down attacks by covering. In the past he used to win the ball more but get done for pace by over exposing himself. Where as Guen is not defending positionally. Hence Xhaka offering more defensively

Actually this is exactly the way Matteo has been deployed at Hertha. Definitely covering as opposed to pressuring. Like I said tho in the past Matteo has taken on the role of pressuring opponents further up in the midfield and he’s capable of that. Seems to me tho he’s being managed a certain way at Hertha. He’s been their deep lying midfielder pretty much all season, rarely ventures forward and just keeps them ticking in possession really.

It was reported Guendog refused to apologise to the manager. It’s also been reported that every manager who’s coached Duzzi has found him immature and hard work as a character. Even at Hertha.

If a player picks battles with the manager, the player has to go. A player not willing to apologise for pissing the manager off is unforgivable. Fergie always kicked players out who picked any battle with him. Guardiola has too. No manager can survive while being undermined.

There are too many shit stories (or I say, praise) for Arteta, no way I would trust 100% on what the media said.
If Arteta is really a person that he tried so hard to display in front of media, he would have expelled Willian after he broke the COVID protocol.
The way he stick hold with Xhaka, not even giving Saliba’s a chance, and of course the Ozil saga… all showing he is suspect to lead all these turmoils instead of a person that can handle things well.
Guen had fault, but Arteta was not there to solve problems either.

Ronnie makes a good point. Clearly there is a ton of bull shit out there regarding Arteta, a lot of ppl defend him. We dunno what went down with Guendo. However we do know for a fact Arteta is a fraud and phony and pretty shit at all aspects of managing a football club. So I’ll side with Guendo on this one. The Hertha manager said he’s difficult but said he was like a puppy so dealt with him in the proper fashion and never had a falling out with him. Arteta has no clue how to manager personalities. Was probably too hard for him so just sent him on loan instead of working harder with him 
The media are reporting coaches at 2 other clubs coming out and calling Guen a trouble maker. You can’t have anyone being a trouble maker unless maybe if they’re top 3 player in the world.

This is a nonsense. Players must adhere to the footballing philosphy and standard. In the mid 90s United, Liverpool and Newcastle all had very similar levels of talent. United won everything, Newcastle won nothing, Liverpool won a league cup.
