Welcome to Arsenal!
First!
Interested to see what he offers, I hope he’s anywhere near as good as many make him to be.
Also btw, this signing was basically done by Edu, at least a big part of the work. Wont give Berta much credit for it, needs to do a proper business of his own now.
I mean the club have been after him for a while now so it’s good to get this one over the like thankfully.
We need midfield reinforcement. Imagine he’ll need some time to bed in as we saw with Rodri the transition takes time. That’s why it’s so important to extend Partey so we don’t have to worry about him needing to settle in immediately.
Also good to get the business done early.
Coming to ride the bench and learn form Thomas.
Hopefully we still get an attacking midfielder, at least nice if Zubi is wrapped up this week.
Know nothing about him, but I trust the process
Have a gander, it’s a nice break down of his profile.
@The_Invincibles will be out for blood if this jinxes it
One down and it’s not even June yet. Good stuff.
Zubimendi is a lot more experienced than Rodri was when he arrived in England and specifically much more experienced playing as a lone pivot, both for Sociedad and Spain. I’m sure adapting to the pace of the PL will have some challenges but I’m hoping he settles relatively quickly.
I think we might be surprised what he opens up for us. Ever since Partey lost his legs a bit we’ve had to choose between a DM who can do the job in possession (Partey/Jorginho) and one that could really do the job out of possession (Rice). Hopefully we now have one that can do both.
Happy to hear!!!
Welcome to the Arsenal Martin
Good player. More of a Jorginho type than a Partey type. Let’s hope that he is one of 3 or 4 players who improve our squad.
Think he’ll offer something but may take a while to adapt.
Gyokeres next please!!!
And then a winger, too!
And maybe another midfielder to replace Jorginho?
And then another winger. And maybe an extra CB and an extra FB.
Then we should be done.
That means Rice as the Odegaard equivalent on the left. Not the type I would prefer for that position, but hopefully Rice and Zubimendi can add to what the other (might) lack.
Where have you been? Stack up on one of our most stacked areas first - tick
Bring in a goalkeeper - pending
Bring in a full back that nobody is expecting - tba
Centre back depth anybody?
Scrimp on the signing of a forward. Nelson is like a new signing and Nwaneri to be given a ‘better’ squad number. Incoming
I think we’ll be able to play more front footed with Zubimendi than with Partey/Jorginho and this should hopefully give Rice more freedom to attack the final third. He has been really developing as a goal scoring midfielder and late runner into the box for crosses and to hit those shots from near the edge of the box, but he needs the freedom to do that.
Partey was once a great athlete but he just hasn’t had the same legs for about two years now. He fell apart a bit physically at the end of the 22-23 season - we can all remember when KDB completely dusted him in the 4-1 at the Etihad - and never been quite the same player. He’s the weak link in our high press, often a step too slow to his man, and his recovery pace and awareness during defensive transitions is also often quite poor. One way we just need to get better is transitioning the ball more quickly into attack and taking on a bit more risk. Part of our conservative play in that regard is tactical, so a lot rests on Mikel. But I think an aspect of that conservative tactical approach is covering for having two DMs that weren’t good in defensive transitions. Zubimendi has the potential to allow us to go forward more quickly.
Partey & Zubimendi is a good depth for a crucial position
A very important transfer sorted within a week of the end of the season. We mean business this time.
Lets be real this was announced early this year and again in the back end of the season. Right around the times they needed to settle some angst i.e post Jan window disaster and the PSG exit. This is the third announcement for Zubimendi lets not pretend otherwise.
This move keeps the midfield ticking along and is a good one but it does not say anything about the club meaning business. We’ll find that out when we hear about the attacking situation.
Don’t count your chickens yet. This transfer was done in January they just used it to quiet angry fans.
Sign a striker before pre-season matches and then we’re cooking.
Scrambling at the end of the window for transfers and you’ll know we’re in for some bullshit next season.
