I was, although as was pointed out at the time, that would have been a very defensive lineup…one I still wouldn’t mind, but Zubimendi will add another dimension from the base of our midfield. He will change the way we play.

I hope not, but once Rice and Zubimendi have formed the best midfield partnership in the PL, why would you even think about Partey?

I rate Zubimendi but I think you may be underestimating Partey here.

The Zubi wankfest is baffling to me. He is no generational talent. I watch him almost every weekend… he’s a very good player but there are many very good players out there. He’s a solid 6 but I don’t rate him over rice or partey.
No big loss if we don’t get him.

Rather spend the money on Nico, much higher ceiling and a more pressing need.

Think the issue here is that we’re most likely losing both Partey and Jorginho so we’ll have to replace them in some way.
So while right now it doesn’t seem like an urgent need, it could turn out one next season if not properly addressed.

Zubimendi is arguably the best #6 in the market so he(alongside Rice as cover) fill that gap for us going forward.
Had MLS not broken through I think we may have looked at younger profiles in that role like Baleba.

I’ve always trusted @shamrockgooner 's vast insight in La Liga related matters, especially as La Real is close to his heart and he is best positioned to tutor us as to what Zubimendi could bring to this Arsenal team.

Surely this transfer is about succession planning rather than upgrading. You don’t really upgrade Thomas Partey (minus hopefully getting someone who is available across more of their Arsenal career).
