Martin Zubimendi (36)

Felt like the game passed him by

Played about 5 successful forward passes lol.

:santi:

Hopefully, we will have that option next season. I really want us to sign a top quality midfielder in the summer :folded_hands:

so you saying he aint top quality?

You know how much I love and rate Zubimendi, but we can easily upgrade on Norgaard. An injury to Zubimendi or Rice would cause us problems. We need a third midfielder to genuinely share the burden.

Norgaard coming in for Zubi should be happening as he needs dropped

Not great today but tactically it felt as if Chelsea’s system put h (specifically) under pressure.

I think Norgaard starts against Brighton on Wednesday. I think Arteta should have done that in the Wolves match.

Tell him to stay in London for the FA Cup tie.

Yeah it seemed pretty apparent they had targeted that part of our buildup. He’s a bit vulnerable but there are times when I do think other players give him some shocking passes to pick up with his back to goal too.

EDIT: MLS wouldn’t be seen for five months if he made one of these mistakes, especially if it was on the rare occasion he gets a start.

He very clearly needs a rest. I think its hard to do that without Odegaard on the pitch though.

An Eze, Rice, Norgaard midfield is just going to be pure chaos ball.

That comp is proper milking it. There’s 3 errors really in there.
Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs.

It’s not even just the mistakes he’s just a very passive passer of the ball. He doesn’t seem to like taking risks in passing into dangerous areas and always looks for the safe option

I could live with those mistakes much easier if he was a guy who would bring something to us when he’s taking risk, as Partes did regularly.

But Zubi is absolutely shotting his pants every time he’s pressed.

The first thing he does when recieving the ball is he always turns his body back, in an negative way, to protect the ball, aftraid of losing it, and passes his back. It’s his default body stance.

He never OPENS up his body when getting the ball, letting it go forwards. Safety first - always.

And the on top of all that he makes those mistakes.

And what Arteta does… he’s literally avoding Zubi when we take the ball out from deep. He makes him run forward and we never did that with Partey and Jorginho.

Why? Because Zubi is a good box to box and they weren’t?

It’s because he’s A SHIT DLP.

TOP5 MY ASS.

DONE. Good day.

Btw, I really think he has good tools as a midfielder in general, but I just hate how afraid he is on the ball.

Partey could do everything he can and was also a much better progressive passer. I’m starting to really miss that player, with extra emphasis on the word PLAYER here of course.

I disagree, he takes some of the biggest risks. He has made several passes into dangerous areas for us defensively

A prime Partey is a more dominant player than Zubimendi. They are different players though and Zubi has been largely quality.

Yep. It’s ok to like both players.

That’s because MLS is nowhere near ready to start games. Has been massively overrated by fans since his debut.
