52 games in his final season. Let’s be honest it was nothing to do with his football.
And here’s the table for errors leading to goal last 5 years.

Partey was much better defensively than Zubimendi. But Zubimendi is not that type of player. If anything he’s a deep-lying playmaker. I don’t expect him to defend as Partey did.
If we’re counting conceding a free that leads to a goal as a mistake in this list then the methodology is flawed in my opinion.
Undeniable his mistake on Sunday lead to a goal of course.
It’s the spurs and united mistakes in that list
That makes more sense at least. To be honest though I’d say that’s a team mistake with the keeper off his line etc. i suppose a bit like assists if you’re assigning them they can’t go to multiple people.
Exactly and the logic is at least consistent for all players in the list.
Part of it will always be subjective as you could give the ball away in their half and have two of your teammates easily dribbled around. Is that still your fault? Questionable.
But the point remains, he’s not some infallible goated #6 that often gets suggested. He’s a good player and I like this style of midfielder much more than the physical ones, but that’s why Partey was top class because he was both. Only thing he lacked was final third production.
Agreed, he is the best in his position for me. Between him and Vitinha really.
I do think there’s a lack of top DLPs out there though so they don’t have much competition.
Great header. Decent performance. We’re going to need Zubimendi to get back into top form.
5 goals and 1 assist so far in the league which I think is already his career best. And this is his first year in the toughest league.
Great stuff Martin. The mistake against United? What mistake against United? Unreal signing.
What does this have to do with anything
?
Ah you say that now!
Huh?
He still hasn’t reached their peak bu his first season in England has been better than both Partey and Rodri.
And Vitinha flopped here when he played for Wolves.
I never expected him to transition so well, so quickly. Hands down one of the transfers of the season and a couple of mistakes recently(which come with the territory of playing in his position) won’t change that.
Don’t think I’ve reallly got stuck into Zubi this year, he’s one of the favourites. If Odegaard had given the ball away like him however, he’d have been slaughtered.
Huge Zubi fan. I’m almost ready for the Partey or Zubi conversation.
Having a very good season, definitely surprised with his final third contribution but I still mainly expect him to get better when he’s under pressure on the ball. Tends to get nervous in those situations often, freezes out at times, makes a really werd decision… At one moment today hqd a very similar situation like on that United goal, although it was much higer up the pitch. Got kinda frozen when he got the ball, waited and waited and made a weird wrong sideways pass while he could have turned around and make some decent forward pass. Tends to get too negative and then makes a silly mistake when he gets nervous under pressure.
He’s a much better 8 than I though. Him and Rice work well as a pair of box to boxes almost, but still isn’t good enough as a pure 6, if that is what we’re even aiming for. Or to put it the other way, isn’t good enough, confident/dominant enough when he gets the ball in the deeper positions.
He’ll get better.
I’ve been ready for that conversation since he rejected Liverpool and Real Madrid for Arsenal.
Never a doubt in my mind. He does get caught, he’s had a few brain farts but I put that down to him adapting to a league where there’s less time to pick a pass but also him playing a far more attack-minded role at Arsenal.
He’s sometimes finding himself behind the ball when we’re defending. He’ll be even better next season.
What a finish Zubi, unreal control
Who’s the best deep lying playmaker in the world right now?
(Sidenote: Got depressed even thinking of who I can list)
