Welcome back Martin its been a while.
Played fully erect for the entire game. That’s what we want to see.
He done some great passes tonight and was unlucky not to score. Personally, I would give MOTM to Gyokeres, purely because of his work rate and that the first goal was all his hard work. Trossard also had a very good match.
Odegaard definitely getting back to his best, but he needs to stop getting some of the simple stuff wrong. And he needs to take more shots!
Am I the only one who thought he was crap? His final ball was shit every time and his goal attempts may have killed an actual magpie flying around the stadium.
Nah, lots of people were unhappy with Trossard in the matchday thread too.
I wouldn’t say he was crap. I thought he was decent. Just felt like it wasn’t his day but he was involved in some good moves.
Martin Purrdegaard.
Amirite lads and ladies?

Beautiful quick, incisive passing

Are you telling me that, because there was no competition, so Odegaard slowed down his play and not able to make quick passes??
So I see he’s introduced meat back into his diet again.
Time to drop Vegan Odegaard and now it’s time to use buzzcut Odegaard. I hope he continues this promising form, especially against the bigger sides.
He roamed way more than usual. Popped up on the left, centrally too, and thus had more influence on the game rather than being rooted to that right ‘8’ spot. Would love to see more of this.
One of the best performances he’s had since his return from injury. Dare we hope he is rediscovering that mercurial form that had us thumping teams with 3+ goals regularly? I pray so.
Does Eze have anything to do with this? Nothing like a little competition huh!
It begs the question; if free roaming is the unlock Odegaard needed to return to greatness, why was this not discovered earlier? Or perhaps it was, but we didn’t have the personnel?
Could’ve really done with this level of quality and output in the last 18 months.
Odegaard thrives when there is a lot of space, as if it is a newsflash. When we play top PL sides, he does not have the same space and out come the daggers again.
With our new signings,Gyokeres and Eze making intelligent runs forward and Zubi, my hope is that he can find more space to operate in the middle. For too long teams double team Saka and Odegaard and we were stifled. Way more options now
That’s a very good point.
I hate it when he only rigidly ocuppies those right 8 zones, doubling on Saka all the time, becoming a second right striker at times…
I like it when he drops a bit deeper, I don’t want to see him in the box while we are trying to create something, except when it’s a late run or he follows up the move in some way (as for that chance he almost scored last night).
I could definitely see him gradually playing deeper and deeper. He did get much better defensively over the years, not so adventurous with the ball, but still has the technical quality to make a big difference there.
Ode as a 6? Why not?
Joking. But as a but deeper 8 (let’s say Modric, Xavi idk), with the other 8 playing in front of him, or even with a certain 10 in front (Eze - > going forward Nwaneri)… absolutely.
Yeah, that’s the plan. He should be our deep 8 for the next 10 years and win 6 CL titles.

Yeah, and Olympiacos did give us a lot of space surprisingly.
He had a stellar performance for similar reasons earlier in the year as well against Eindhoven when we scored 7.
It is true that he looks reinvigorated though. Past two games he’s been more daring with his passes than he used to be.
Whether that’s down to better off the ball movement from his teammates or him just being braver(or tasked to be so) I don’t know. Could be a bit of both, I like it though and I hope it continues.
And just imagine we didn’t get Eze…
I’m mad thinking about it, why did we gamble pulling it off so late…
