Manchester City*

Wonder how many brown envelopes have been spread everywhere to get these results :xhaka:

If they escape these charges without punishment, and Mancity thumbs their nose at the rest of the clubs that know they have cheated i hope the rest of the league does something. Hopefully including refusing to play them. If the worst happens i hope the premier league goes under and it will be their own doing.

The decision and its interpretation by the PL seem a lot more nuanced than the clickbait headline.

The PL says they will be keeping the associated party transaction system with some tweaks that will mainly affect other clubs and their ability to provide interest free loans. It doesn’t seem like they are accepting defeat here at all in terms of just allowing it to be open season for City and Newcastle to cut whatever ludicrous deals they want.

I see Everton, Newcastle and Chelsea stood as witnesses for City.

The Red Cartel and their cronies. :drop_of_blood:

Someone dumb this down for me. This the 115 charges?

No, this is separate. City have basically won a ruling saying you can sponsor yourself however much money you want which obviously will help them cheat PSR.

Good explainer here.

Some executives believe these are short-term victories for City but that the judgment might be better for the wider system in the long term. The judgement made a point of describing the APT rules system as “fair” and in-keeping with competition on the whole, with the corresponding likelihood that they will now be tightened and strengthened.

This is absolutely the key thing…City have won the battle, but not the war. The current rules have failed, so all the PL need to do is go away and tighten and strengthen them.

The other interesting element to this is that they are judged to not comply with the UK competition rules, so maybe there is also a role for Government to step in and makes amendments to those if there is a conflict. Handy, if one of the clubs affected by this set back happens to be a fan and is also the PM

Slightly confused with Everton being there as the ruling isn’t great news for them.

We don’t know what they said. If you’re called as a witness you attend.

Unless you try to hide in your partner’s car outside the courthouse causing the prosecutor to get a warrant for your arrest because you dodged the subpoena.

:joy:

It rejected City’s argument that the Premier League itself should be subject to APT rules.

I saw that :joy::joy:

I happen to work in a section now where legal letters are par for the course. It routinely amazes me what solicitors and barristers will put in to writing to try and win an argument. Lol

Visiting a City forum is actually wild. EVERYONE IS OUT TO GET THEM!

The fanbase is a sportswashed cult and the same thing is happening to the Geordies.

I still chuckle when I think of the City acquaintance I have claiming there were charges in there related to the length of their grass. This was actually something they were claiming to show how badly they were being persecuted.

This whole “red cartel” thing makes me laugh. The idea that a club like Everton would cozy up to City on these matters when the main reason a historically great club like them is sinking fast is precisely due to what clubs like City have done.

When the “red cartel” were more dominant Everton were routinely finishing in the top 6 and pushing for top 4. It ain’t Arsenal, Liverpool and United who have absolutely fucked them in the last 15 years…
