Manchester City*

Yep, I’ve fully converted to the NFL as my primary sport of interest. It’s the best league in the world for parity and sporting meritocracy

This used to be the case in football before the PL era. Case in point Nottingham Forrest and Aberdeen winning European trophies

One game doesn’t win a league title, I’m sure you know this.

But perhaps if North Korea had have won the 1966 WC, then we could talk about how many of their misdemeanours in the area of human rights can be forgotten about.

It’s a moot point since we all know how 1966 went down.

It’s amazing what consistently spending more than any other club in Europe does.
Get the best manager, the best first team and 200m of players sitting on the bench every match and you too may have a chance of winning the PL title..

It’s amazing, especially when you consider that Man City struggle to sell out their games.
I wonder where they get all their revenue from to afford all their success.

It must all be legit though…otherwise they would have to deal with FFP…

a lot of teams in recent years have been taken over by rich owners but to be fair to City they slowly built their team up and have made important signings at the right stages, other clubs haven’t

City have been smart

Best side aesthetically to watch in Europe over the last 3-4 years.

Also what @SRCJJ currently says about their lack of global fan base is true, but with the sustained success they’re going to have that’ll likely be very different in 20-30 years time.

Phrase one of the city project was throwing shit at the wall. Enough of it stuck that they won that first championship. They didn’t really get smart until Txiki Begiristain came on board.

they couldn’t go out straight away and just sign in a load of world class players in one go

No they signed Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge. Shit. Walls.

Well yeah they set up clubs around the world to launder money through. That’s very smart. No other club in world football done that yet.

Pathetic club.

Can’t even fill their stadium if they at least cheated with a club with fans like Villa or Newcastle it wouldn’t be as bad.

also signe Elano and the other brazilian guy (can’t remember his name) Kompany wasn’t world class at the time and was really cheap, 3 great signings that helped them at the time

Robinho

the thing is, both City and Chelsea were able to take advantage of stockpiling before FFP hit… so it makes their transgression even more eggregious… it is a lot easier to comply if you have 20 extra players you can just sell to fund new stuff, even if they are at a loss (tbf, that is probably more complicated given the way transfers and wages/contracts are handled in actual financial statements).

Stockpile 20 youngsters and hope a few of them make it big on loan plus buy and sell the Roque Santa Cruz’s of the world and fund your phase 2, making your books cleaner…

not who I’m thinking about

Jo?

Yeah absolutely… in phase 1 they cast a wide and hilarious net. But they still managed to sell them later, even if at loss - which helped their later compliance if I am not mistaken.

Was it that guy who scored a belter in the Manchester derby in 2007?

Giovani?

was Giovani, yep
