Imagine paying €70m for Paqueta and €30m for Tielemans, when we could probably get Rice for the same money and secure our first choice midfielder for the next 8 years.

Who says we can’t? It would be a step up for the player. We have an excellent team of young players. He fits the age profile of the team perfectly. He would be first choice in midfield for us. We could afford his wages and signing on fee demands…and in respect of the transfer fee, I am sure with just 2 years remaining that we could make a deal with West Ham. We just need to offer them the money, which we clearly have based on the fact we were willing to pay circa £35-£40m on Martinez and circa £50m on Raphinha.

Rice will know when the time is right, he can pick and choose from any team in the Prem bar maybe City. Liverpool would love him as a long term Henderson replacement, he will want Chelsea and they will want him. Spurs will probably be off the cards.

I don’t like him that much either but it’s not because he isn’t good, it’s his style I’m not a big fan of.
I don’t quite get the negativity either. I never saw him at Milan and have only seen him a few times at Lyon. But he seems very highly rated within Brazilian football and he is a monster statistically.
I wouldn’t be over the moon with the signing but I wouldn’t be opposed. We’d be pretty exciting in attack with two of Paqueta/Ode/Vieira as 8s behind Martinelli-Jesus-Saka.
