Lionel Messi 🐐

that is the biggest tournament in the world, and only once in four years.

After waiting so long, Messi is getting the recognition he deserves. :grinning:

Any player who does well in the world cup and wins it should win the ballon dor.

It’s the greatest competition in world football

No player from the World Cup winning team has won the Ballon d’Or since Cannavaro in 2006.

I do feel bad for Haaland because the guy had an otherworldly debut season in the toughest league in the world and also had the team honours to go with too.

There’s reports that they have created an award to honour Haaland’s season anyway which stinks of what happened with Lewa.

We simply can say, no Messi, no Argentina WC. Period.

I was looking at the voting differences between the coaches and players (FIFA World Player of the Year, pre-2010) and the media (Ballon d’Or, pre-2010). Coaches and players tend to vote for the player they consider the absolute best, while the media places greater emphasis on team achievements before recognising the outstanding individual player.

If you rewind to the year 2001, when Michael Owen secured his Ballon d’Or. He only managed 8th place in the FIFA World Player of the Year. Based on my calculations, if all three voting categories were combined, it would have been David Beckham walking away with the Ballon d’Or award for that year.

Also, Ribery and Sneijder would have had a Ballon d’Or to their name if only the media could vote. :person_shrugging:

just lol

You knew it was going to happen, but still doesn’t make it right.

Popularity Contest, whatever.

Deserved.

Come back when Haaland could skin defenders like Messi skinned Gvardiol in WC semifinal

Henry not winning it was terrible, Lewandowski being overlooked was shameful. Messi winning it is laughable.

Faitytale ending was the world cup. The Balon left the audience feeling cheated. It’s the Avengers winning the Nobel Peace Prize at the end of the film - necessary? No?

it is a tremendous job to be competitive and remaining popular.

because Messi is still ā€œproductiveā€, that’s why he remains as the most popular.

Another popularity contest. Shit is rigged

;).

Nostalgia…here. we. go.

Quite a convincing victory it must be said. Haaland wasn’t even close to winning

if Messi could lead Miami to win the MLS, another Ballon d’Or will be in his pocket

No chance.
Messi will no longer be shortlisted for this award, unless he wins World Cup again.
