Lionel Messi 🐐

Super league is dead, no matter what Madrid, Barca, juve want.

Admittedly both these leagues will lose financial clout now but there is no other path

Messi is unaffordable for most clubs that would actually be interesting.

His last contract was pure financial madness and an instrumental part of the reason Barca are completely bust now and heading into dire straights. The Madrid clubs will make hay the next few years in Spain as a result.

He’s past his best and right at the very end of his time where he can really move the dial.

Purely a fantasy signing for anyone who takes him now.

Lol

Messi’s deal whilst huge is isn’t such a big reason.

Been given £200mil for Neymar and spalshing it on Dembele, Coutinho and then dropping over £100mil for Griezmann as well as damn near 900K a week plus a ridiculously large general wage bill is what has screwed them over.

As for Messi he can definitely still move the needle, he’s adapted his game as he’s aged but is still arguably the best player in the world.

Will La Liga call Barca’s bluff?

It’s a tough one for La Liga, I mean they are in real danger of slipping behind. Let’s face when Messi goes they are fucked, the viewing figures will be reduced substantially he is that big

I read his last contract cost over 510 million euros over 4 years. Completely agree there has been other madness including Griezman but this amount of spending on one player was beyond belief and beyond the means of this club.

Although he’s been arguably the best player in the world, he’s one player out of 11 and the club has to find a way to balance its books. The current 1 billion debt mountain suggests either an insolvency event or years of austerity to get the clubs finances back on track.

messi cant last forever either, i reckon he is about 3 years max from retiring so even if they hold onto him all they are doing is delaying the inevitable slip in power.

No doubt it’s a monstrous amount of money to spend on a single player even the worlds best.

When I read the figures they’ve been spending I’m surprised it’s taken this long to catch up to them, they’ve essentially been burning money for years. Apparently Griezmann’s salary isn’t even in the top four at the club which is crazy.

It’s beyond crazy lol. Just ridiculous sums wasted on quite average players.

Laporta has his work cut out thats for sure. But generally there is just such a financial gap with the Premier League, hard to see Spain and Italy catch up tbh. I mean look at Juventus, essentially in the sake position and they are one of the healthier clubs in Italy
