He looked pretty good in the Club World Cup, best I’ve seen him since the World Cup in 2022.

2/ opponents were/are easy on him
right, players will go easy on their opponent’s strongest attacker.

Opponents ease on him has nothing to do if he is good or bad.
It is more like Messi is on his final tour and people paying more than usual respect when play against him.
