Leandro Trossard (19)

Should we? From Saudi id want minimum 50m for him given the money they throw around.

Hard player to replace and maybe next year is the time to try, he’s a safe option to keep while we try to improve that front line.

My worry would only be that he gets less game time if we sign willliams and a striker, then he throws a strop.

Unless I’ve missed something which is very possible I can’t help but feel this whole celebration against Villa thing is so blown out of proportion or made to be something that is nothing.

Besides I don’t mind my squad player behaving like he believes he should be in the starting team if it’s all within reason.

Not directing this at you btw, just a general point about the whole thing.

It is but I love to bring it up because I thought it was a cock move at the time and then he’s hardly justified himself as a starter this season.

Be interesting to see how he reacts with an extended period on the bench again though. At least for the rest of this season he won’t have to worry about it.

That’s the thing though why was it? He’s hardly thrown his shirt off in protest or something like that.

On top of that you’ve got Saliba, Rice, Gabriel et al celebrating with him. Surely that’s a cock move by them too then is it?

Because it was about 3 games into the season and it had made sense for Martinelli to start the games he did. Not like he’d been benched for weeks on end.

Not sure what you’re on about bringing the others into it but Saliba was telling him to do his normal celebration and not be a cock.

I think I’m just seeing something so different to you tbh, that’s all :joy: Even the Saliba supposedly stopping him, I’m seeing the total opposite.

I guess so, but to be clear (I think you know already) I only brought it up as a sarcastic response to him being ‘happy as a squad player’ when we’ve seen a suggestion otherwise after 2 games on the bench this season.

I’m not still having a go at him for it now, I thought it was unnecessary at the time and now use it as a bit of a joke :slightly_smiling_face:

He is a squad player, was signed as such and is very useful as one. If we sign 2 new forwards he’ll definitely be back in that role rather than starting all the time.

Exactly this…I still believe that we will spend big in the summer, but retaining Trossard helps us with squad depth. He may not be a starter going forward, but he can be a really effective squad player and someone who can make a big impact from the bench. Fully support a contract extension.

Haha yeah tbf I was equally questioning what I was seeing myself as I’ve seen loads of others bring it up, not just yourself :+1:t3:

Current wide options:

Saka
Martinelli
Trossard
Jesus
Nwaneri
Sterling

Jesus is probably done here, Sterling is a loan. That leaves us with 4 options. NWANERI will be a much more regular starter next year. 4 is enough as long as you have two actual strikers. Saka and Nwaneri are clearly of a high standard, I think Martinelli is too but get that his form reeks. Replace Jesus and Trossard with a game changing winger.

Do not get me wrong, if Trossard signs a new contract, I’m not upset - he’s good. We need a Saka level winger though and selling Jesus and Trossard probably improves our chances.

yup - get Nico Williams, Sesko, and another striker ideally (we won’t). we will have a few outgoings and can free up some wages and hopefully recoup some funds as well… I guess we’ll need a new back-up GK and a midfielder, so we’ll have to get creative with spending.

He was on the shortlist for Al-Ittihad last summer but he was an alternative of their main targets.

They’re willing to spend big, but that’s on players at a good age that can contribute for years to come.
They were burned by Neymar and if you notice, they’ve been very cautious since, especially with players in their 30s.

From our squad I see them spending good money on players like Martinelli and Kiwior, Jesus and Tomiyasu would’ve bee some others as well previously if they weren’t crocks.

Back when Leandro thought he was the main character, but they’re all out injured.

He’s the main guy now though.
The main guy among the main guys.

Time to shine. Time to become a legend.

What would Martinelli do here?

Stop his run and pass backwards

Trossard has an excellent left-footed drilled cross.

Nothing good comes from Martinelli is that position. That much is known

Or slowdown his run, wait until the defense sets up and then try to beat his man.

I think he would he would do his trademark sabotage of going outside, close any space he had of taking on his man before passing it back.

Mar9 would play the ball of the full back for a corner. We’d score from the corner. Pre assist.
