Jurrien Timber (12)

Being picky, and this might be more of a praise for White actually, I want him to utilize those overlaps better.

A couple times he made good overlaps but he often squandered those openings by making a poor cross or passing it back.

White is better going forward and in combination peeped that early

Timber has an excellent foundation to build upon though

Timber was one of the best players on the pitch imo. Perhaps my memory eludes me, but I don’t remember these.

Never said he wasn’t or that he had a bad game though. :eyes:

Absolutely love his versatility. He is equally as good on the left and the right. Such an important player for us. I am convinced that had he not got injured last season, we would have won the league.

Right suits him more.
He tried a couple of times to cross by his left but no good.
If he can improve his lefty, it will be awesome

Don’t disagree, but defensively looks solid on the left. Calafiori will make left-back his position this season. Timber’s versatility could be the thing that makes the difference when we need to rotate the squad.

Hate to boast, well maybe a little.

Hence why I think White will be permanently deputised/share his role with Timber come end of the season.

Our best first 11 could really be shaping up to be:

Raya
Timber
Saliba
Gabriel
Cala
Rice
Merino (TBD)
Odegaard
Saka
Havertz
Martinelli

With Martinelli and Havertz’s roles up for debate depending on what foundational work we do between now and next summer.

I don’t think Timber is better than White. I think it’s clear that Arteta is looking to deploy and rotate his defence like Pep is able to do at City. They will all end up playing a very similar number of games at the end of the season.

That’s a fucking hawt eleven alright. Now let’s a fucking out and out assassin up front.

Gotta give Arteta credit for putting him on the right.

He solves the link up issue we’ve had lately with Odegaard being out and Ben White getting a rest.

I agree with this could well be our lineup but I would be gutted to see Ben White out of the first team 11. Such a great player and attitude.

For the time being, I think the strongest 11 will have a fully fit White at rb and Timber at lb. Calafiori will be in and out the team a lot though.

love the way he’s slotted right in so far, and will maybe get even better with time

Timber and White will play at RB depending on opposition and defensive needs elsewhere. Timber and White can deputise for Saliba too so both will get plenty of game time.

I don’t think one is better than the other, they’re very different players.

Love this guy.

Such a perfect player for our system. Seems to have recovered really well from his ACL. Huge relief.

Apparently he chose to stay in London during his entire rehabilitation, instead of opting to go back home, like many players do with long-term injuries.

Delighted he’s back, delighted he’s ours. And he’s Dutch  there should always be a Dutch player at the club.

Also, good piece from The Athletic this morning:

Wholeheartedly agree as someone who really got into football when we had Overmars and Bergkamp in the side

Missed him in the second half.

Hope he doesn’t have an injury
