José Mourinho

If spending is not important to Mourinho’s success then why out spend every other manager in Europe while he was at Chelsea?

I’m not saying what he did at Porto wasn’t good but you could argue the way Wenger revolutionised football in the PL and the style his teams played, while spending a lot less, is more impressive.

What kind of negotiation was there with the bank as well lol.

Him staying as collateral. Meme worthy. Complete propaganda doesn’t even make sense.

In my experience Wenger is respected by many and appreciated for his influence in the PL and the wider football but ask neutrals rank him in terms of best coaches and he won’t rank particularly high.

I don’t think I’ve heard or seen a non-Arsenal fan put Wenger higher than Mourinho.
As of a couple years ago, even Klopp was seen as the better manager but thankfully I think that has changed now.

Wenger’s record in Europe was awful in the Highbury years but I’ll cut him a little slack by saying European teams were way more respectable then. mid-table Fiorentina had Batistuta and Rui Costa for years. Which mid-table team can hold onto players like that and not get dismantled?

UEFA Cup final was before my time but seems a big fail however.

I think it’s easier for us Arsenal fans to put his situation into context. I don’t think non-Arsenal fan take these things into account.
The main thing a neutral will value is success.

I think this is probably the case for Liverpool fans and Klopp. Liverpool fans will make a case for him being the best, even better than Pep, Fergie, Wenger and Mou whereas I think a non-Liverpool fan would put him 3rd at best depending on how much they like him or hate Wenger(Arsenal) and Mourinho(Chelsea).

Walcott scored his first goal for Arsenal and Diaby kicked racism out of football. We lost but it’s a classic.

He kind of fell off didn’t he

I remember he used to be the dog’s bollocks and in the GOAT race

Don’t think that’s the case anymore

What went wrong?

True, but then why is Mourinho so jealous of Wenger and his accomplishments?

The rivalry between the two was started by Mourinho, Wenger didn’t really participate until those exchanges on the touchline.

I bet Mourinho would swap a few trophies to have the respect and adoration that Wenger has around the world.

When he was Man Utd he said that he was jealous of what Arsene had with Arsenal and he hoped he could have that there.

They seem to be on good terms now. Mourinho still takes petty shots every now and them and he did get pissed with Wenger for not mentioning him in his book but it definitely comes off moreso as friendly rivalry now than a heated one as before.

They did punditry together years ago for the CL final between Liverpool and Spurs and it was pretty cool to see.

Wenger built one of the most entertaining teams in Europe spending a fraction of what Chelsea spent and that’s why Mourinho was obviously jealous.
It’s also why he resorted to petty snide remarks towards Wenger through the media saying he was a loser and voyeur.

Wenger was class while Mourinho was a petulant hypocrite.

This! The specialist in failure comments and all the snide remarks is pure jealousy.

Even the recent comments about Wenger’s new daylight offside rule. It’s one thing to disagree with Wenger’s approach, but he did a whole eye roll etc simply because it was Wenger who introduced it.

If it was just a nobody at FIFA, his reaction would be very different.

I don’t think he’s jealous of Arsene’s achievements really, cos his achievements more than stack up against Arsene’s, so why would he be?

There was definitely enmity between the two, and Mourinho held him in disdain (maybe kinda still does), but I really dunno about jealousy.

It’s simply Wenger’s maturity that makes it work, and I don’t know whether I should admire it or not.

On the one hand, He shouldn’t brush off insults like a voyeur. That’s just a horrible insult.
On other hand, Wenger is so respected that insults never touched him and it looks much worse on Mourinho.

I don’t know if that’s necessarily true

I think the lack of success post-invincibles and often times joke exits from champions league knockout rounds lost a lot of that initial respect

I get the feeling that this is something that Arsenal people project on him. Mourinho is adored in the footballing world.

@GC-Maniac ffs🤣
