Jorginho

He played well today and perhaps a lot of that has to do with the work put in by Rice. I could see him signing as a squadie but for how much? He is good on the ball, 32 and slow.

Such a lovely performance. If he was available and fit during November-January we wouldn’t have dropped as many points I’m convinced. Maybe that mistake in September had disproportionate consequences? But not sure if he was carrying injuries etc. Just glad he’s back and in the team instead of that arse midfield we’ve been trying to force all season.

That double pivot with Rice worked flawlessly. Think I saw some comments on his play not being easy on the eye but I think it’s very much a matter of preference. I actually love watching the incisive passing he brings. We saw it last season coming in for Partey. That ping to Martinelli :ok_hand:t3:

Give him another year. We need his experience given that Elneny and Partey will be gone.

Tremendous yesterday. Great presence.

Made easier by the fact that Liverpool’s midfield was poor (on paper and in terms of performance) but Jorginho’s positioning and passing was top class.

Great player for us. When clubs like Chelsea are in disarray, it’s often not the quality of the players but something else that makes these clubs underperform.

Great time to snatch quality like Jorghino.

You need to weigh it up with signing a replacement, the transfer fee for that + that player’s wages and then the risk that player can’t do what Jorginho does.

Being slow doesn’t really matter much since he doesn’t rely on it to be effective and 32 is young enough to be part of a squad challenging for trophies. We could do with keeping some relatively cheap and effective experience around.

If you don’t need them to defend counter, and the team plays possession football, speed isn’t really that important.

Pirlo for example.

Jorgi showing why Pep was so desperate for him all them years ago :heart_hands:

Yeah gotta give him another year, ultimate professional, happy to be a depth player and a wealth of experience.

I’m a bit ashamed when I go back and remember being devastated (having a meltdown to be exact) about not getting Caicedo end ending up with another washed up ex Chelsea player.

Said it at the time. Had he gone to City all those years his standing as a player would’ve been much, much different.

same here

Overall this has been a very very clever signing. Especially while Parteys thighs and hammies are made of ricepudding.

Our signings from Chelsea have been shite for the most part.

Jorginho is by far the standout. Diarra back in the day could have been another one but he left too quickly. Luiz did a job but was too much of a liability.

Eh. As the one who had probably the biggest tantrum about it on here, I stand by my concerns. Older Chelsea player coming in midseason who was so different from the profile of player we were chasing definitely looked like a half measure when a full measure was required.

He’s been fantastic here though. I can really only think of that one mistake against Spurs.

Everyone that doubted this signing has unanimously been proven wrong. 100% categorically wrong.

Why should there only be one profile of player in contention particularly in the January market?

Jorginho was a victim of

  • football fans retarded bias against ex-players of rivals
  • Chelsea’s ridiculous decline making all their players look shit
  • football fans not finding his playing style to their aesthetic pleasure aka deep lying possession play. Verratti faced similar from some quarters
  • football fans hating his face and shithousery

But the reality is we picked up the best third choice DLP in world football. Not one team out there has that luxury where if top class players like Rice and Partey go down they can then call upon someone as good as Jorginho.

He doesn’t have to be a physical destroyer like Partey or Caicedo to make his own mark in a game. His experience and trophy haul is simply undeniable.

Excellent pick up. Rice Jorginho double pivot could be fantastic while getting Partey back in the mix (wouldn’t rush him in while these two are in this form).

Yep I doubted it and was wrong.

Remember before the game I asked why not play double pivot??

Proud to be a founding member of the Jorginians, a proud group with a goal to judge specific transfers on their merits.

To all the doubters; the receipts remain and mods will begin deleting your accounts over the next few days.

You’ll never get rid of me.

This is perfectly normal, you can’t undo years of hate in an instant because they signed.

Jorginho in particular was at the forefront of many dodgy chelsea result against us, including dives and penalties. He had to play well to undo that damage and he has :sunglasses:
