Jorginho

I didn’t see it, going off comms. Not the impression I got. Even, maybe and perhaps Everton created the better chance. But overall sounded like we were in control.

I agree totally that the refs could stamp some of this out. Personally GKs taking an age for goal kicks should get two warnings and if they do it a third time they get a yellow. Then one last warning for 4th time. Red card 5th time. It would sort problem out over night.

Lol, people expecting Everton to play champagne football with Iwobi and McNeil being their most technical footballers.

Our possession was pretty useless. Everton were going at it much more determined and any dangerous situations really came from them.
They were also pressing really high up at times too. That definitely did play a part in their capitulation in the second half and especially last 15-20 minutes.

I honestly don’t think they really “parked” the bus any differently to other teams against us. It was your typical performance from a team playing Arsenal this season.

If that’s directed at me…this isn’t what I’m saying! Everton are clearly not able to play free flowing attacking football. But this doesn’t excuse the time wasting tactics and cheating that Dyche told his players to do from kick off.

Agree with a lot of this. They defended higher up than what most thought and smothered our midfield.
Quite composed on the ball at the back for thirty minutes.
Not having the quality for an out was there problem.
Defending was better than Brentford. Difference being Brentford had a better counter attack and could hurt us.

Did you watch the match?

How do you know that’s what he told them to do? Most of those Everton players are plonkers by trait, they don’t need to be told to waste time.

What exactly did you expect from the likes of Keane, Maupay, Pickford and the rest?

Gonna be a cracking game.

Come on Forest!

Sorry you’re absolutely right. I’m sure as manager Dyche had no influence on the team or the tactics they employed during the game. I wasn’t watching the bench last night but I’m sure he was going mad on the touchline at Pickford for time wasting from kick off.

I think he’s saying what they should not do is timewaste from the very start. It’s not entirely unreasonable to dislike any method of cheating or foul play, it’s not like The_Invincibles is saying they should have an open set up and go toe to toe with a vastly better side in the name of beautiful football being played the proper way. He’s got no issue with them being defensive and focusing on negating our attack by being boring and sitting deep etc etc, which is a legitimate tactic, it’s the illegitimate tactics he’s complaining about.

I do get where you are coming from, as certain people will label anything less than beautiful and expansive tactics anti-football, “Brexit ball” or some similarly silly phrase, but I don’t think that’s what this is right here.

Sham is ultimately right, it’s an officiating problem. You book a timewaster in the first 10 minutes and they’ll soon stop. If it goes unpunished then of course poor sides will seek to maximise that to gain every possible advantage in a match that’s going to be an uphill struggle, which is what I’d want my team to do if I supported a shit side dicing with relegation. But it wouldn’t surprise me if our opponents rightfully disliked my side employing these underhand strategies.

Exactly the point I was trying to make @JakeyBoy

Okay well articulated but at some stage if we are 1 up at City say, we would all be applauding the same tactics in a few weeks.
In fact probably encouraging it.

Completely agree, most of us would be, for sure haha.

Guess it’s part of the inherent contradiction of being a football fan.

But that also would be different to doing it from the very start of the match, which I don’t think would be universally applauded by gooners.

Absolutely not. In 90th minute to close out a match yes. From kick off no!

I reckon that mood might diminish a little if they lose to Forest. They might just be willing that international break to come in sooner rather than later.

I can only recall us using time-wasting tactics at home once (from the first whistle). Chelsea at home in 2013/14

If we are one up there. We will be all counting the clock down whenever we scored.
This tactics ultimate aim is to frustrate the opposition.
You simply don’t want the better team getting in it’s stride.
Frustration leads to a loss of composure. You would not be waiting till the 90th minute as a fan for this acceptance at City fighting for a League title.

Wasn’t Jorginho eating up time for fun against Leicester just a couple days ago?

There are plenty of things the team can do…slowing the game down, keeping the ball, getting our passing game going, drawing a foul…these are all intellegent ways to frustrate and disrupte the opposition. We’re Arsenal and we don’t have to cheat our way to a PL title.
