James Bond

He’s from Jersey funnily enough

Normally, yes, but this broke the mould.

Some killer spoilers below chaps and chappesses

To have Blofeld (rather cheaply and unimaginatively), Felix Leiter and James f’ckin Bond die in the same film is unheard of.

I mean I understand the history of the franchise I just don’t particularly value it’s importance as much as others do.

There are a million things going on in the world of cinema I care more about than the next Bond or Bond girl. I’m not saying people shouldn’t enjoy it, it’s just people raise it’s importance to something I myself can’t see or understand.

Then again I know you really enjoy popcorn cinema events and I’m not that fond of them so it’s likely we are always going to feel differently about the Bond series.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

So just watched it. loved the start. Beautifully directed and felt genuinely fresh and different, even if a little drab. The middle was OK. Even the female 007, despite being a totally pointless character, was kind of likeable. I even didn’t mind bond being in love again particularly. It all felt like a nice solid middle of road Bond flick with some lovely direction and then yikes.

There’s a reason why Bond had to be infected with the nanobot poison and why he had to die at the end, and that’s because you simply cannot give the guy an onscreen wife and kid…it fucks up the franchise. How do you go back to light when you’ve introduced something so monumental and heavy. The franchise will need to keep returning to it. obviously this is no good so you got to kill it all off and just reboot the franchise again and pretend it all never happened. which begs the question why bother doing it in the first place.

also i really don’t understand why Safin didn’t raise madeleine. He saves her, presumably disposes of her and then years later is randomly in love with her. and he’s basically the same age as her. Didn’t understand his story at all. This text will be blurred

What?
No women on the list? :grinning:

Reboots of Bond will be fine, and will be natural with this being Daniel Craig’s finale. Deconstructions and reboots have been a kind of hallmark from Casino Royale on. The problem perhaps is we’ve seen big reboots with Pierce Brosnan’s Goldeneye and Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale so the filmmakers are going to have their work cut out to impress us again, and with all the challenges of navigating political correctness, etc.

I get where you’re coming from, particularly because there have been some weak Bond films over the years that haven’t warranted the hype.

But the Bond franchise is a British institution. Personally, I feel quite proud that it’s a film series that contains predominantly British actors and is usually a global box office success. There’s definitely an element of sentimentality / romanticism that goes with it. I feel like it’s a celebration of British acting as much as anything else, and something that gets a worldwide viewership because of how bloody British it is. I sound like fucking Amanda Holden ffs

Yes she was in this one. Very good aswell

I’m a massive Bond fan, haven’t seen the new one however…

I saw the spoilers here and that is complete trash. Bond falls in love and has a child and then dies? Yikes lmaoooo weak af

Bond lost its way in the 80s when Dalton was Bond. Why? Because they went for the realism side of it and it doesn’t work for James Bond. When Bond tries to emulate popular action films is when it is at it’s worst. The Dalton Bond films were wanna be Scarface type films, had to be rebuilt with a proper Bond movie, Goldeneye.

Hope they go back to the lighter tone and campier style Bond because that’s the Hallmark and what makes James Bond James Bond. If I want to see a generic action film I can get that with the Bourne identity or Taken. Bond films are supposed to be smarter, seems like they’ve been taking the lazy route the past 10 years tbh.

I can watch Diamonds Are Forever again and again.

Bond girl: “hi, I’m Plenty.”
Sean Connery: “I can shee that.”

The plot lost it’s way completely after about an hour, plus the ending was just ridiculous for me

I went in with such high expectations after reading the reviews but was left really dissapointed

Sums it up nicely, Will.

I still recall that scene where Sean Connery is trying to hide himself from the real Peter Franks.

He hides beneath these steps and does that thing that kids do- turn your back to someone, hug yourself, put your hands on the back of your shoulders and it looks like you’re hugging and kissing someone :joy:

The other one that sticks out in my mind is Man with the Golden Gun. Bond is impersonating some dood with a 3rd nipple. He hops the fence in China and there’s a naked chick swimming in the pool…

Bond: hello whats your name?

Naked Chinese girl: Chu Mee.

Bond: hmmm, maybe later :kissing_heart:

SPOILERS

I hope this Bond death was chosen mainly as a way of tying up the Daniel Craig story arc, rather than a symbolic and literal means for resetting who and what Bond is. That’s probably my biggest fear with how this film ended.

Fucking hell mate I don’t really care about the series but I’m sure there are fans coming in here to see what the reception is like without wanting to see that first line with that tiny ass warning. I reckon you might want to use the tags because people will read that as quickly as they read the word spoiler.
