How does a player try to headbutt another, and VAR just stays silent?
Feels like the Leeds game, only this time they didn’t realise VAR was offline.

He punched Jesus in the back and stayed on. So “trying” to headbutt is totally fine.
Not one mention of VAR by comms or pundits. It wasn’t working and it’s being kept quiet. Hope the truth comes out at the very least.
tbf this was like with 30 seconds left so it didn’t really change the result but its still a red lol he went three times at Eddie ffs
It’s almost like the broadcasters have some unwritten agreement with the league that if an incident that looks like a clear penalty/foul is not called and they only give it a lazy look for two seconds on VAR that they then trot out the “VAR has reviewed it and we play on” line and we’re almost guaranteed not to get to see a replay. Likely it’s because they think we’re stupid and will forget about it 10 seconds later and they won’t expose the referees and video men for how utterly incompetent they are.
They hate us cos they anus!!
Oh wow. Took them 3 minutes to look at the Newcastle goal which didn’t need a look nor check.
And nothing was looked at in our game.
Yep, this will happen like clockwork.
I really hope we follow up with the PGMOL to formally register a complaint against the referee, or whatever procedure is in place to do so.
A performance like that shouldn’t be swept under the carpet. Absolutely shambolic. He was refereeing a UFC bout or a 1970’s pre-game hooligan meet up. No stanley knives or steel capped boots, so no issues. He was waving away fouls like some big hard man, like we were faking contact to win free kicks. Had an arrogance about him and there’s absolutely no place for that when you’re refereeing a match at the highest level.
Honestly, their CB must have been absolutely laughing his head off after the game, wondering how he got away with battering Jesus all game like he was one of those wooden sparring things that Bruce Lee would twat with his bare hands.
I’m still so annoyed. This would have been a bad performance 20 years ago, he let Southampton get away with a ridiculous number of fouls. The convict who punched Jesus in the back and headbutted / throat grabbed Nketiah…no words…
He has doggedly worked away and he’s coming back .
See, it was almost humorous seeing Deeney and Toney being booed by Gooners. They really set themselves up as panto villains.
This Ly-wank-o geezer, though. I really hope the fans give him a hard time when Southampton come to the Emirates later in the season. Forget panto villain, he’s like a real villain. He’ll probably cry if 60k fans boo him.
Fucking old-school thug. Needs a Billy Bremner or Jimmy Scoular education.
Penalty and red card for Cancelo
Nothing for TAA
Consistency?
Just click on the link. They have the two incidents side by side.
Cancelo was sent off because he was adjudged to be the last man. Not the same for Trent.
But it’s still a pen.
“Last man” isn’t a rule though.
Yeah Cancelo was sent off for the denial of a goal scoring opportunity with no attempt to play the ball. That description applies to what Trent did too. But I guess because it wasn’t as aggressive and not as clear cut in front of the goal mouth they decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.
When are we going to get a review panel.
If the ref doesn’t see it, if VAR doesn’t call it, that’s still no reason for the player to get away with something like this. Shambles.
Any English refs going to the WC?
Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor.
